Bioethanol fires?

Anyone have one of these? Looking for an environmentally friendly and cosy fire source to heat up a large sitting room. Are you happy with the one you have? Any recommendations appreciated!

Yes we have. Love it. Don't use it often but every now and again we have it on. We bought one with three separate cartridges so that we don't have to have it all lit.

Basically we fill the cartridge, light it and it will burn for approx 3 hours, we close the cartridge "door" according to how big we want the flame.

The only thing you can't do is light them up again straight away, although we've never needed to.

We bought the lift out cartridges so that we can take them outside and use if we want to.

There is a slight odour to the bioethanol but apart from that it's great.

I'll try and find some pictures of it lit.

I'd be really interested in this too. I was swooning over the wood burner effect bioethanol fires last winter but read very mixed reviews about whether they actually work in warming a space!

That looks lovely, thank you! How are you finding the heat - does it make the room nicely warm?

Yes but it never lasted long enough - 2 to three hours isn't an evening. And I got sick of filling it up.

Yes we have one. Ours is a replica Victorian surround and grate and often gets mistaken for the real thing until it’s lit. Love it. It holds enough for a full evening’s fire like 4-5 hours worth. Really warms the room. Buy good quality fuel and it doesn’t smell except for a very slight odour when first lit but it’s not unpleasant or anything.

beachmum1 · 22/08/2023 21:54

@TropicalTrama do you have a link to yours please?

I have three - one in my bedroom and two in the living room. Was debating on whether or not to put one in my bathroom, but I figured that might be a bit much. I wouldn't rely on them a a primary source of heating, as they only last on average a couple of hours, and the fuel isn't overly cheap, but the two in the living room really proved great for warming up the space, as I work from home, and refuse to heat the whole house when I'm alone during the day.

@Friendshipissue the heat with all three on is too much to be honest so we generally only use one burner at a time. This is sufficient for us but as they only last a few hours if we were cold we could light the one we've not used.

I do live in a brand new build which is warm and well insulated.

@TropicalTrama what fuel do you buy?

Bioethanol is more for show than for heat.

We use a flue-less Zibrokamin stove (laser model with fan) to occasionally heat a 30m2 room with very high ceilings. It goes from 14 to 20 degrees in an hour. It’s highly refined paraffin so it burns very clean but you do have to air the room regularly.
