Painting the front door - security

I need to repaint my front door. I want to use oil-based paint because I’ve found the water-based paints, particularly in dark colours, fail after a year or two due to it being very exposed to the weather.
The oil-based paint takes a minimum of 16 hours before it’s ready for a second or third coat, and even longer to fully dry. What do people do about shutting the door while they’re waiting for it to dry?
The best idea I can come up with is that I leave the door ajar for several nights and sleep on a mattress right behind it to keep intruders out. However, I anticipate this allowing a lot of spiders to walk across my face while I sleep.

How do people get around this without ruining the fresh paint?
I work from home, so not worried about leaving it open during the day. Just the nights that are an issue.

It’ll be touch dry a lot quicker than 16 hours. So start early, doing the edges that contact the frame first, then the rest. It’s only those you need to worry about because they’re the only thing in contact with anything. You’ll be able to close it overnight, just maybe leave the wet paint notice in there for a couple days.

I just accepted that the bits that tuch might not be perfect. Actually, on a warm and breezy day, it was easily dry enough to shut the door that evening.

I just did the touching edges first so they had the longest to dry.

Do you have a cold setting on your hairdryer?

I don’t even own a hairdryer!

OK, this sounds do-able, and I’m just overthinking it!

Paint early morning on a warm day. Vaseline around the door frame before you shut it before bed. Wipe off any Vaseline on the door before the second coat the next morning.

When I painted my front door, i started very early in the morning and did it on a warm, dry day in the summer. This meant I was finished before 8am and had plenty of time to dry. Saying that, I was able to close it by mid afternoon and it didn't mess up the paintwork.

Have it sprayed, it will dry much quicker.
