Keyless front door

Has anyone got this?

I am thinking along the lines of a keypad into which you punch a code rather than one that needs wifi/smart phone or requires electricity and so prone to fail if there is a power cut.

Advantages are that:
there no keys to remember/lose (have teen kids)
can let trades people know codes and then change it afterwards

But obviously must be secure and recognised by the insurance company

My BIL has it and it looks brilliant. I think there's a back-up key (not sure where he keeps that?) for when the system goes down.

Sorry, don't have any details, but if we'd own the house we live in I would definitely consider it.

Would a lock box work? Lots of air BnB use them so I would assume that insurance recognises them and you could take the key out of the lock box at night or if you can go on holiday etc

Thanks both
@Owjrbvr - I don’t trust any of us to reliably replace the key in the box. I can imagine it be in a jacket pocket inside the house and the us being outside the house…

Our neighbours have this and it seems to work really well for them. I think they have the electric type. I had to go in once for them and it took me about ten minutes to work out how to get the keypad to show up on the screen- it goes blank when not in use!

I had one. Ultrion smart lock. So it worked via an app on your phone, could also be unlocked via a keypad. Thankfully it had a back up key as well. We had issues.

it would work fine for months but over time the mechanism kind of gets out of sync. So the door would think it was unlocked but it wasn’t. We had a replacement and that was the same so a design fault I guess. I got locked out a few times with no key.

I’ve just looked online and the design looks different now so maybe it’s improved?

I know someone with a Yale one. It's really convenient. I'm looking at getting one too now

That all sounds positive and the more I think of it, the more benefits there seem to be.
I would be happy with one of those keypads with physical buttons, rather than touch screen, that you get on office doors - less prone to failed electrics and not dependent on having a phone.

I know a family who have a thumbprint lock. The parents also have physical keys as backup. It sends incredibly easy to use, even in a dark porch.

Whatever you do, DO NOT get the app one. We have it. I absolutely fucking HATE it. Standing outside the door, pissing about with an app and multiple facial recognition thingys, when I could’ve simply put a key in.

It’s the MOST FUCKING ANNOYING thing ever.

Thank you and I agree, it does sound like a nightmare!
