How can I fix a sheet of plastic to a wall to display pictures behind

The wall isn't strong enough to support a clip frame (or at least not the heavy one I have)

It's out doors so I need to make it waterproof/waterproof resistant

I'd like to be able to change the pictures occasionally, but I don't mind unclipped or unscrewing to do that

Anyone got any ideas?

What size are the pictures?
If the wall isn’t strong enough for a clip frame then it won’t be strong enough to attach a batten to secure plastic.
Would one of those photo pocket hanging displays work?

Photo pocket hanging display

Just a4 or a3 photos and printouts

The clip frame I have as a backing board that is quite thick so it weighs a bit are others lighter?

I had one that was just cardboard on the back. Got it from a factory shop. Many years ago though.

Havnt seen you in a long time Katymac, how's the dancer. I used to be on the CM board with you about 15 years ago.

Hmm cardboard back might be a problem

She is lovely, thank you - about to do her first one woman show as a local Fringe festival and yesterday performers at a respected venue where they were showing the film she made with an arts Council grant

How long does the document need to be there each time? ie is it permat, or are you moving it at the end of every day?

Would the colour on the seal of these be a problem (hang with seal at side/bottom) https://amzn.eu/d/eCOQe5t

A4 also available.

Then something like external command hooks - but don't put the hook on, just attach to the wall and the plastic wallet?

It won't look the most professional tho.

Although, could you laminate the paper somewhere, and then external command hook?

Zippy storage bags might work , upside down so water doesn't get in with as you say command hook tape

Ideally I don't want to laminatebas its not massively sustainable but I might find zippy bags second hand which is more sustainable than buying new ones

I can either leave it in place or move it

It's my sales caravan - it has big opening doors which are on show when I am selling & I thought showing my previous work plus having all my workshop info in one place would be good

I currently have about 5 signs I have to prop in places, they are made from card so don't do well in the rain and the wind isn't kind to them either

I could cover them in Cork (& maybe paint with a waterproof paint) but that wouldn't stop the rain trashing the photos

& blackboard paint seems such a good idea but I really struggle to write well!

They would be great @LooselyBasedOnAMadeUpStory but most of my photos are bigger

I'm wondering about poly pockets now!

Can you just laminate the posters and then use *command hook velcro attachy things? I did this for a sign on my front door and it worked well. was up for about 6 months including a wet winter.

Throughinhbit out left field, could you get an large artist easel and two sheets of perspex, put your pictures in and seal between screwing together.

KatyMac · 20/08/2023 20:58

I'd rather not laminate if possible it seems a very bad use of plastic if there is an alternative

Easel with the clip frame I have is possible but I worry about windy - the doors are at least fixed- screwing perspex onto the door is possible, maybe with brutal fixing the pics in place? With something along the top to prevent water getting in

I'll go and feel some notice boards somewhere....did staples close down?

The staples I know have all gone.
I'm a keen recycler etc. but even I would laminate in this instance (I have done outdoor displays for my work too). Sometimes what seems to be a not-very-sustainable solution is so much the simplest and best one that you actually waste a lot less material by using it rather than doing complicated stuff that uses a lot of materials and keeps having to be redone. A perspex sheet cover, even a thin one, will use far and away more unsustainable plastics, for example. As would a perspex fronted frame. And they'd both need sealing for rain. Which would use more plastic tape. etc.
Zippy bags will soon go cloudy, as will those plastic pockets, and the pockets will leak. And both would actually use more plastic than a thin laminator pocket, which won't go cloudy or leak when heat sealed and so won't need replacing as often. In this instance, I really do think laminating would be your best and least environmentally un-friendly solution. The notices would be lighter than any frame, not breakable like glass, easy to transport, could be stuck up with re-usable Blutack to many surfaces, and would look more professional as well.

KatyMac · 21/08/2023 06:54

I know, but I have poly pockets and zip lock bags (not enough of these but I could conceivably get more on marketplace)

I also have the large clip frame that I could dismantle for the perspex sheet

I have nightmares about laminating everything when I ran the nursery! I know I'm going to have to but I'm still planning and speculating in case I come up with a genius idea!

I am leaning towards painted Cork on one side and blackboard paint on the other....then paying someone to write/draw on the board
