We need to take curtains down and will have about 3 weeks with nothing before shutters are fitted. As we will be getting in to October for this and the nights darker I need something to fill the gap otherwise we'll be very exposed.

Any ideas other than newspaper or windolene?

old sheets tacked to the window frame or wall. Fill in tiny holes left with tacks once complete.

I've always used old plain white sheets so it looks decent from the outside. Easy to tack up, too.

We got black card from Rymans when we needed to make the room totally blackout - looked rubbish from the inside but from the street it looked alright.

When we were waiting for our shutter installation, as our wait was more like 12 weeks, we got a wire curtain hanging kit with self adhesive hooks (Amazon) and then some light fabric curtains. Wasn’t blackout but worked very well.

Thanks for suggestions so far. Tacking things up isn't an option really because we'd have to tack to upvc.

I'm saying 3 weeks but that's only if shutters come on time.. we too have had a 12 week lead time

We used stick-on paper concertina blinds for a while last year. They're a bit of a faff as you have to sort of clip them up when you want them open, but they didn't look too hideous and they peeled off OK without leaving sticky marks. I think I got them from Amazon.

Crosspost! Yes, that sort of thing ^

We currently have no curtains after moving into a new house. We use Temposhades, which are essentially paper blinds. They work really well at blocking the light out.

Stick on blinds from ikea. Be warned tho they are very sticky so we just peel back the very end bits rather than the whole strip

Personally I just go for newspaper and masking tape, but a cheap neat looking way could be a using lining wallpaper. Couple of quid for a roll.

Black disposable table cloths masked on sparingly with low tack masking tape. Pretty opaque, very light, minimal risk of damage.
