Worktops - solid/compact laminate

I need some help on this - anyone got these in their kitchens? I looked at quartz and cannot justify almost 5k for worktops, so am looking at alternatives to a simple white surface with a touch of sparkle. Not grainy looking, fine milled if that makes any sense? Have seen some on Howdens, worktop express and also Wren but am hoping to get some feedback etc.

This isn't the answer you want but thought I'd share my experience. We fitted a kitchen in our previous home (around 2014) and made the decision to go for cheaper worktops due to price (still nice laminate). It really was a false economy for us, although we saved money I knew it would have looked so much better with the quartz (my original choice but decided against it due to cost).

Fast forward to 2021 after a house move, and this time the worktop was something I wasn't prepared to compromise on, even if it meant waiting to do the refit. It is lovely - so tactile, robust, easy to clean, and love the way it reflects the light.

Not sure if this helps as appreciate it doesn't actually answer your question!

Jesus that is absolutely not helpful but very helpful at the same time for nailing the conundrum. Will a kitchen look cheap for having a thin, compact top tho?

No, I don't think so - do the kitchen company provide a mock up so you can see (I know Wren did which helped). I think I just wanted to say make sure you LOVE it, because you have to live with it and if you plan to stay in this home long-ish term, then its worth getting what you want.

I'd never judge looking at someone's kitchen and think something looked cheap, I just know it really annoyed me once we'd got the first kitchen done and I wished I hadn't compromised.

I think my view of levelling up the decision is you can easily spend a few thousand on a family holiday, which is lovely but once its over, that's it. Whereas the extra money in a kitchen is something you appreciate every day.
