Would you ask landlord to fix kitchen worksurface?

We have lived in this rental property for two years. The kitchen is old but has been pained to look new. The worksurfaces are those cheap wooden flooring type light wood, with an oil or finish on the top. They are a nightmare as a drop of water left more than 10 seconds will cause a mark. These usually go away, but the entire surface has been worn away in some areas. It needs sanding down and refinishing.

Do you think a landlord would be willing to do this?

Landlord here. Get in touch with them/agents saying exactly what you've said here. Send a pic to them. No LL in their right mind would want stuff to deteriorate unavoidably. I hope.

We have wooden worktops in our house but I know it takes a bit more work to look after. We do have composite in our rental, which is easier. Are they not maintaining yours then? If not then they might be happy to change it.
