I like The Avenue, Surbiton, and Claremont Road (the first one in your OP).

For me, a decent kitchen is a must, and layout matters too.

HolyParc · 15/08/2023 09:17

I posted re moving area and getting a house or staying where we are happy and settled and with a great commute a while back and 90% of comments were "stay where you are and get a flat" so it's interesting to see that now people seem to think the opposite should be the best way forward.

I have to say, our budget can stretch a bit more than this and we are ideally aiming for a maisonette with a garden with a bit more space, but there aren't many in the market currently.

Yes schools are all fine, just curious to see what people would pick

Is one of them yours?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/08/2023 09:24

This one is a great choice for a small family!

I'm raising my kids in a flat and it's nice.

Frenchfancy · 15/08/2023 09:33
  1. Communal garden would be a great asset with DC. It is the largest by far.
GettingStuffed · 15/08/2023 09:35

I like number 4 . I'm amazed at the prices though. I'm looking for a 3 double/4 bedroom property and at £400k were looking at very large properties. There's a 5 bed 3 bathroom (it sort of has an annexe) well under max budget.

This is an area which is within easy commute of Bristol.

avocadotofu · 15/08/2023 09:40

I like 3 best.

HolyParc · 15/08/2023 09:42

@GettingStuffed I know, this is London unfortunately :(

@HolyParc bear in mind that even a maisonette with a garden will be a leasehold/freehold situation. I honestly cannot emphasise enough how essential it is for you to understand the implications of this and to fully understand the particular situation of whatever you end up buying.

HolyParc · 15/08/2023 10:00

@BewareTheBeardedDragon Yes, I understand. But millions of people live in flats/maisonettes in the UK, this area I am in is mostly made of leasehold properties. I understand it can be a pain etc but I also think one needs to weight other factors when making a decision on what to buy. As much as I'd love a house, it is not within our budget in this area as we are FTB and properties here are expensive. We thought about it a lot and for us, priority is to stay in an area that is very well connected with central London (for work), with great schools, that we love and feel at home, close to our friends and with lots of great green spaces and amenities at our doorstep. If this means a leasehold property, so be it. I don't want to move away somewhere I don't love just for the sake of buying a house, although I understand that most British people won't get this.

I like 2 and 4, the extra one you posted.

MNetcurtains · 15/08/2023 10:21

I know this is irrelevant, but it's doing my head in. The details for number 2 state it's on the 1st floor with balcony, but the photos show that it's clearly on the ground floor (view thru the windows.)

MNetcurtains · 15/08/2023 10:27

The kitchen/dining/living space is very cramped.

HolyParc · 15/08/2023 11:04

@MNetcurtains no, the description says it's ground floor

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 15/08/2023 11:07

@HolyParc sorry - I wasn't trying to put you off a flat or maisonette and I do understand, I used to live in a London flat with share of freehold. I'm just saying it's a good idea to make sure you fully understand the situation regarding the freehold before buying because issues with freeholder or between Co-owners of the freehold can make life a living nightmare. I bought with no understanding whatsoever and it blew up in my face.

LulooLemon · 15/08/2023 11:17

Two. But I don't know the area.

HolyParc · 15/08/2023 11:25

@BewareTheBeardedDragon thank you, yes, we will do all the research when the time comes
