Period
Style
Decor

Etc?

I love an Edwardian property and my style is pretty colourful and eclectic.

I do love a sympathetic period style decor too, but don't think I'd have the first clue of how to go about it!

Scandi minimal. Yes it's dull but it's functional and comfortable. Hardest part is keeping 'stuff' out. Getting batter at this each year though.

Period - now , don't know what period that is 😏

fullbloom87 · 12/08/2023 12:01

If I was going to build my
Dream house it would be a New England style house with coastal decor by the sea.
Lots of chalky white with natural wood, odd bursts of colour and large windows.
I'm not keen on really minimalistic or ultra modern or contemporary styles.
I like cosy but fresh with lots of wood and balconies.

booomshackalack · 12/08/2023 13:01

@fullbloom87 that sounds lovely! Add to that a view of a lighthouse from the balcony, sounds like heaven!

I was going to say a converted bungalow, early 20th century, but the New England style property pips it to the post.

Farmhouse, but real farmhouse, minus all the kitschy cheap dollar store ‘farmhouse’ decor. I’d love old, comfortable sofas and armchairs, a big farmhouse sink, white walls and real hardwood floors etc. A roaring fireplace and lots of old oak hutches containing vintage plates and cups.

But we’ve just bought our ‘forever’ home which is a 1954 terraced house with a tiny garden. And my DH loves scandi minimalism, so my farmhouse dreams will forever stay on Pinterest. 😂

Georgian, elegant and airy

ClematisBlue49 · 12/08/2023 13:16

I like high ceilings and big windows, and a decent-sized hall, which rules out a lot of newer homes. I've mostly lived in Victorian homes with a similar layout so I'm looking forward to getting away from that. Decor-wise, I like a pared down, elegant look, with a nod to 1930's and / or mid-20th century style.

I'm renovating a 1930's bungalow currently. There will be light engineered wood herringbone flooring, neutral off white walls, and black will be the main accent colour throughout, with secondary accents that are different in each room. Weirdly perhaps, one of my inspirations is Tony Dinozzo's apartment in NCIS (before McGee moved in and ruined it!)😉

Forgoodnesssakewhatnow · 12/08/2023 13:21

Brutalist, concrete walls, metal beams and stairs and huge windows.

LittleAlexHornn · 12/08/2023 19:54

Modern, brilliant white walls, splashes of colour with lots of framed artwork on the walls. Minimalist. Lots of texture.

BlueMongoose · 12/08/2023 20:50

To look at- Jacobean or Tudor, then Georgian, then Victorian. To live in, 1960s.
What I have actually got- 1920s.😆The period features have almost all gone, I regret the loss of one or two like the panelling I think there was in the hall, and I'm glad some cornicing remains, but as for the other 20s stuff I'm glad it's gone....not my favourite period by a long chalk.

We're late 1920s and we're going for herringbone parquet as well....

RoseMartha · 12/08/2023 21:49

Pre 1900
Light decor no grey
2 bed
Garden
Country feel to it no florals though

I live in a 1980's flat with no outside space so all ideas rather than reality.

Rapunzel91 · 13/08/2023 07:00

A mix between New England and Norwegian/Swedish houses would be my dream. Love the coastal New England style with slight minimalism.

Search ‘coastal grandmother’ on Tik Tok, dreamy!

FloofCloud · 13/08/2023 07:18

I've lived in a few different types, one cottage built in 1500's (huge spiders but dark because windows small), Victorian ok but high ceilings and expensive to heat - lovely big rooms though, farmhouse - nice, rustic, 20th century of all kinds 1950's bungalows which were always good because they were quiet as Noise doesn't travel like in house, but boring, 1960/70's again boring. We now live in a house that's eclectic, rebuilt from one of the bungalows and modern now. Got everything we want, lots of space, vaulted ceilings in sone rooms and it's quiet! So love this. There's also one of those very modern houses where much is glass which is up the road from me, thSt I LOVE

Ambi · 13/08/2023 07:23

Japandi with lots of natural materials and textures, some muted colours. Fairly minimal. Clean lines and soft flooring.

External house style, Georgian houses are the most beautiful. I do love a nice cottage or woodland fairytale home.

rosetintedmemories2023 · 13/08/2023 08:54

1930s art deco flat - preferably 3 bedrooms with generous hallway.

sunshineplayroom · 13/08/2023 09:44

Interesting to read people's preferences. A lot of variety there.

My preference for a large period property comes from being brought up in a tumble down double fronted Victorian. It was completely shabby and un maintainable for my parents ( with a deep cellar that flooded daily..my dad used to spend his weekends up to his knees in water pumping it out surrounded by newts and frogs hopping about!), but Christmases were magical in those big rooms and it holds many happy memories for me and my siblings.

I'd love an Edwardian House.
