Viewing a house with a garden not attached to the main house

Hi everyone, I'm selling my house and have been looking around for a new property. I have found one that is so pretty and so lovely - the only downside is that it has a courtyard garden attached to the property and then, backing onto that, is parking for the house's vehicles and then, just beyond that, is a separate enclosed garden.

I did look at a property not long ago where the garden was separated from the house by a private access lane and, having young DC (between ages 7-10) as well as a dog, we decided it wasn't for us.

However, this house ticks all the boxes, except for the main garden being detached from the house!

Would a house like this put you off? There is another house attached to the side of the house (so effectively it is a terrace) but the other house has no driveway / garden or parking.

Thanks!

It wouldn't put me off.
I have an allotment that's 10 minutes walk away and it still feels like 'my' space.
The shared drive might be an issue if your neighbours become weird or unreasonable though. But there again they might be lovely!

I too would turn the 'garden' into a veggie patch and put herbs plants/pots on the patio for some greenery- but then I don't have children.

Is it all flat to walk from house to the other garden? Where would you keep a lawn mower/gardening tools? Would you have to cart them from the house to and from the garden or is there are garage where the parking is?

I would download the title plans from land registry for the potential new house and the other properties to ascertain to access rights and any restrictions, even before you book a viewing. Sometimes these slightly less ordinary property layouts can have strange access rights and/or restrictions.

Agree the shared drive would concern me more in this scenario. Current neighbours may be fine but what About when they move.

@bluebellsanddaisies23 it is, it's a lovely thing to have the separate spaces.

I've just reread though and will say our drive is just for us, which may make a difference. X

Hi all, DH and I decided not to put an offer in. We went to view it again and, it turns out (the EA let slip!), that the shared drive (although owned by the house we wanted) was shared with 3 other houses, and, recently, when one house was having scaffolding up, one of the house's cars was blocked in for a week as the scaffolder's did not realise it was shared by so many neighbours! It caused a huge argument with the neighbours - you could see the EA's eyes widen as he realised that perhaps this wasn't what we had wanted to hear! Also, the garden being away from the house, with young DC and a dog, we felt just wouldn't work. It was just too risky for us so we won't be proceeding any further with it.
