Recommendations for light coloured flooring

Hi all,

I need to put flooring down on an open plan area for lounge, dining space and kitchen (L-shaped space). I would like one flooring throughout so I need something that can cope with a kitchen but still look OK in a living room.

I had originally set my heart on a warm, reddish brown but the virtual planner thingy shows that the space really does look much brighter and better with a light flooring.

I've had various shades of beech and oak flooring in my previous couple of homes, and I want something different. So we're now thinking that a white, cream type of flooring might be the way to go.

The thing is, I don't want a polished look. I prefer the vintage, rustic style - which in fairness will be handy if the flooring is light-coloured!

The flooring guy said I can't have click laminate because the area is too big - they recommend glue-down.

I am so confused about flooring. Is Amtico/Karndean really better than generic brands of flooring? And what's the difference between laminate and LVT?!

I don't want real wood, but other than that I just want a vintage style of glue down wood-effect flooring that is in the cream/white colour range. We'll be installing a new kitchen and we'll choose a colour that complements the flooring so it's completely open right now.

Here's one I liked but I think this might be click? Can anyone suggest a good flooring that might suit? Please help!! 😅

Try this company - www.hoffparquet.co.uk, really great guys and reasonable prices. For light coloured wood flooring they have ash and Douglas fir wood flooring to offer. Worked well for us :)

Amtico signature range.

ours is textured and has a “grain” it has survived my idiocy my husbands clusmimess 2 scrabbly dogs and our kids without a mark.
it was expensive but I have ZERO regrets

My DSis dragged me around at least 10 places looking for same as you for entire house.
In the end she went for an engineered board from Howdens oak board and something by Moduleo for kitchen, utility and bathrooms
White Moduleo. The Moduleo is easy to maintain, the boards less so as they are a bit soft imho.

Hahahaha! Hello!!!

Thank you for commenting on my thread, I always forget to look at dates too! 😅

Depressingly, almost a year later I still don't have my floor down.....!!!

I had another very long and old thread going elsewhere - this house was an extension and renovation job that's been going on for about 18 months or so (actual building) and almost three years from when we first offered on the house and moved! Feels as if we've been living on a building site for ages - haven't even unpacked our boxes, only the essentials!

We're about to have the living room doorway moved and the hall wall knocked down so couldn't put the flooring down.

Basically the whole of our downstairs layout has changed - we added an annexe to the side for DM and stepdad, and we moved the kitchen from the front to the back, added a new shower room/laundry room/study, knocked down walls, put up new walls, bricked up doorways and so on. It's been a huge job!!

Once the builders move the living room door and knock down the hall wall, the flooring will go down. I have it here all piled up in boxes waiting to be laid and I will upload a photo as soon as it's done!

Mind you, the speed this is all going at, I'm not likely to be in a position to update until July 2025! 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have Quickstep LVT in Snow Pine. Love it!

Florence4170 · 17/07/2024 19:31

Oh dear 🤗never mind, I'm glad you have it sorted now!

NessasBoots · 17/07/2024 20:29

Op, thanks for the update. Will await the photos.
No pressure, but am expecting big things after all this time. Haha.
Ps. You have my sympathy. House renovation is a nightmare.

But what flooring have you chosen?
