New shower, get rid of bath?

Thinking of removing bath and put in Shower cubicle. We don't use the bath at all and have a rubbish shower over the bath at present so that needs replacing. I think it shouldn't be too expensive, anyone done this?

I did the same about 18 months ago. Don't like baths although many people do, so unsure how it will go down when I come to sell the house. The bath was really old so I had to either replace the bath or not have a bath at all. I had a walk-in shower and it all cost around £2,500 which included tiling and a new washbasin.

Every time there is a thread about taking out a bath and putting in a shower loads of people come along to say they would never consider a house without a bath and how young families absolutely must have a bath.

We bought our house which only had a shower. It was just a small one so DH put in a big walk in shower which we both love. A couple of houses in our village only have showers and none of the owners have had trouble selling. They are 3 bed houses so often are sold to families. One house was bought by a couple with 4 young children (12 down to 1). They have lived there 2 years now and have not seen the need to put a bath in

Lots of properties in Europe don't have baths and so, obviously, families manage fine.

Thanks both. We have 2dc primary age and both get showers and just buying house so no plans to sell anytime soon. Thanks both

I used to love soaking in a bath but now I hate it. We're buying a bungalow due to dh worsening mobility and will need to replace bath with a walk in shower. The shower over the bath is a fancy rain one and electrics are all behind the tiles. So we'll keep the shower and just remove the bath, add a shower tray and tile the exposed bits. Really want a wet room shower but not sure if the floor is suitable.

Looking at it we could do it all ourselves. Apparently the cost to just remove the bath is 150-200 quid. The shower tray will be easy to fit as the plug and waste fittings from the bath can be reused. Tiling is also easy to do.

The hard part will be the shower screen. We want a wet room style glass screen and these are expensive and difficult to fit (very heavy) so unless we go for an easier plastic version we'd need to pay someone to do it. So we might as well pay someone to do it all. Plus we'd be getting their advice, expertise and ideas. We're budgeting for 1500 - 2000 for it. We live in Wiltshire.
