Kids toys storage ideas

I am looking for an inspiration for a good storage solution for my 5yo. His toys are literally everywhere! And when cleaned up it is piles of toys everywhere anyway!

I was thinking of buying below Trofast x2 or perhaps some sort of wardrobe with shelves only. I like the look of Trofast but not sure how practical it would be looking at the size of the boxes, especially that his toys come in different shapes and sizes. I don't have lots of £££ to spend so I need something cost effective too.

Pls help 😀

I have 4 trofast units for toys and they are ideal. Very easy for the kids to organise their own things and put things away. My 1.5yr old can easily use them.

We had the same dilemma and went with Kallax as the boxes are big enough to handle the chunkier toys. (Large plastic dinosaurs, I’m looking at you.) Though they’re less good for smaller bits and bobs, which can get a bit lost. If we had room, we’d have both. Kallax for the big toys and Trofast for small toys, craft material, stationery etc.

I love trofast, kept all the toys organised and I'm still using units years later to store gardening stuff.

We got a Kallax with different coloured cubes as its then easier to get them to help clear up - all the dinosaurs in the blue cube type stuff!

We then use old ice cream tubs and butter tubs for storing smaller bits within the Kallax - so small bits of Lego and Playmobil. That way they don't get lost.

It really depends what you want to store. I have some trofast. Great for cars, trains, track, Lego (smaller sized bits).

Kallax is better for jigsaws, lumps of plastic etc. Some open can be useful for larger items.

I've also made use of Lack. My daughter has Sylvanian houses and bits that she wants to play at. The little TV bench fits under her window and is a good height for play. Vehicles go underneath and I have a few small canvas baskets on the shelf for all the annoying bits and bobs. It means the bigger items look neater than they would just on the floor.

LACK white, TV bench, 90x26x45 cm - IKEA

LACK white, TV bench, 90x26x45 cm. The opening at the back allows you to easily gather and organise all wires.

I have started looking recently into IKEA Billy bookcase. If I got one 40cm deep then it would provide plenty of storage. I am really torn between Billy and Kallax. There are lots of large lego boxes etc that need storage and it feels like getting Billy bookcase would give more options/freedom. My concern however is that at 2m tall my little one won't be able to reach all the toys himself. But the room would be so nice and tidy!

Kallax units IKEA.

The kallax fits the plastic boxes that go with the trofast too. On ours we have one small and one medium stacked on top of each other so they can sort smaller toys.
