Can you be refused an application for social housing

Long story, but I am in the process of putting my name down for social housing. I've already sent documents they've asked for (birth certificates, wage slips, bank statements etc) but I'm unable to send them a utility bill as all the bills come in under my soon to be exs name and they also want proof of being related to someone else in the area which I'm not except my two children who are still minors, even though I've lived and worked in the area for over 20 years. Just getting a bit stressed that I'll be refused. I'm in the east of England btw. Has anyone had any experience please?

Only if your income is higher then they accept. It's £65k where I'm from.
I think if you've worked there for 20 years that's considered a connection yes.

I wish my income was £65k! I'm more worried about not being able to provide a utility bill. Thanks for replying.

Are you on the electoral register?

They must be used to people not being able to provide bills. It's quite common for them only to be in one name. Except for council tax, all mine are.

Yes, I have voting cards come through in my name, don't think I've got any to show though (don't bother to vote).

Hopefully they'll accept you being on the register. Surely there must be people in abusive relationships who are allowed no control over paperwork, and they must be used to it.

Please vote. All not voting does is persuade politicians that there's no use developing policies that help people like you, because they don't vote anyway. Meanwhile, rich, white pensioners vote.

Sorry, I know that's not what you asked about. Good luck with housing.
