Semi-permanent soundproofing?

Hi all,

DP and I moved into our home earlier this year, it is a Victorian terraced property with, we have now realised, incredibly thin walls. When we visited prior to moving in, we didn’t notice any noise so I can only assume neighbours happened to be out at the times of our visits.

We can hear everything - I know what film or TV show is being watched and could follow along if I wanted to! Conversations, drawers/cupboards opening, music etc. is all clearly heard. Neighbours aren’t being overly loud, these are normal ‘life’ noises so I’m not looking to complain, and I’m sure they can hear the same from us!

I wondered whether anyone had any tips or experience with semi-permanent (as we are renting), reasonably priced solutions to help with this? One of our bedrooms with little furniture in is considerably worse for noise so we’re looking to purchase wardrobes/drawers etc. to hopefully buffer some of the noise out.

any tips greatly appreciated!

Is it a mid or end terraced property? If it's an end terrace, can you spend most of, or all of, your time in the rooms away from the attached side. Is your landlord aware? Other than that, the only solution would be to move unfortunately. I live in an attached property but would choose a detached one next time for the very issues you have, but realise that not everyone can make that choice.

We lived in an end Victorian terrace. We could watch tv with ours on mute and hear the actors word perfectly thanks to next doors tv.
We spent £££’s to knock the plaster off, have insulation plasterboard put up, then replastered.
It didn’t work because sound carries along floor & ceiling joists, not just through walls, so I can’t think there would be a temporary solution tbh.

Egg boxes, thick carpets and curtains.

buy egg crate foam on amazon. put up wardrobes or IKEA billy bookcases with the egg-crate foam stuck to the back of them.
