Plumber & issues with new sink - is this normal?

I've just bought my first home about a week ago, and I had a plumber out yesterday to fix a broken bathroom sink. A couple problems have come up and I'm just wondering if this is normal, and if not, what would be best to do about it (photos included).

First, when the plumber had finished he showed me there is a small gap between the new sink and the lino where the floorboards are exposed, and told me I would need to get new lino for the bathroom to cover this up (completely redo the floor). I wasn't expecting to have to do that and would have thought he would maybe let me know in advance or suggested a way to cover over the gap, but is that not what would usually happen? (Also, I'd be very grateful for any thoughts on whether there's a way to cover this up without new flooring, because money is a little tight right now.)

Second, after the plumber left, I noticed some water marks on the ceiling of the room under the bathroom. He said not to run the sink for 24 hours so I haven't tested if there's an ongoing leak, but should I expect him to come back and check this/fix any issues? I'll need to paint this even if everything's OK which isn't ideal either but not sure if this is just par for the course with these things.

Also, when I opened the cupboard, I noticed a small puddle of water under the U-shaped pipe under the sink - I'm a little concerned it could be leaking there although haven't been able to test it as 24 hours haven't passed.

Apologies if this post sounds very naive or unknowledgeable - I have no experience at all with these things and just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Would really appreciate any thoughts - thanks so much!

The plumber didn't fix the sink he changed it.

If you change sanitary ware there is a risk that they don't fit exactly due to the same old design not being made anymore e.g. in the past one of my friends had a coloured toilet and the only replacement that fitted was a white one.

Depending who lives in your household and how messy they are you can put a bath mat in front of the sink so you can't see the gap until you can afford to replace the lino.

In regards to leaks if it is a slow leak they aren't easy to see. So it is up to you to work out where they are.

Also no plumber I've ever had has ever come back to check whether their work has leaked. They expect you to call them if their is an issue with their work.

Who chose the new basin and vanity? It is presumably a different style to the previous (pedestal?) basin and the flooring was cut to fit the old.

If you can’t replace the floor, I'd probably try to cut a piece of the vinyl from under the vanity to match and glue it in place. Then use a bath mat on top.

Put a bowl under the basin, and when you test running water, see if it catches any. It probably is leaking and might be a simple fix with plumbing tape, but you won't know until you test it. (I'm not a plumber.)
