Landlord (Tenancy DIY agreement)

Hello all
I am not sure if this is the right place for this post but I could not find/think of anywhere else

A friend is got a year tenancy agreement which ends this month but he wants to move in the next few months (when exactly is not known)

The landlord is ready to sign another agreement possibly for another 1 year but he won't be there for another year

If he does not sign any contract, that would be a rolling basis right? It has he got to sign a specific rolling contract? The landlord is another friend who is also new to the letting world.

There is usually a clause in the AST that states that the tenancy will become a statutory periodic tenancy (rolling contract) when the fixed term expires and give the notice period. The tenancy will automatically become a statutory periodic tenancy if the landlord doesn't give notice at the end of the AST.

Your landlord friend needs to start being professional and learn/understand the law or pay someone to manage the property.
