Waste disposal?

Currently having my third kitchen built in 8 years (long story why).

I put an insinkerator in the last two kitchens. Found it invaluable with the tweens becoming teens. However I've lived without a waste disposal for the last year and it's been ok, as the teens are hardly here. Leaving just me, who knows how to dispose of food properly.

I can't decide whether to put one in the new kitchen or not. The things stopping me are the permanent airswitch hole in my nice new quartz worktop, meaning I can't go back once it's done. I also remember the waste disposal chamber not quite cleaning out all the food in the extremes, and it got quite smelly on occasion.

Convince me why I should/not get one fitted in this kitchen. Thanks.

they're bad for the drains, teach your kids to scrape plates into the bin. If they tip it into a waste disposal they can tip into the bin.

It seems that you can appropriately dispose of food trash. After some time, though, you could start to miss the simplicity and convenience of the Insinkerator, so you might want to look into other possibilities. Some services collect organic trash for composting, which could be a greener and more environmentally responsible option. Hold off installing the InSinkErator for the time being. Accept your understanding of how to dispose of food waste appropriately, keep using the dumpster service, and after some time, assess whether you still require an Insinkerator in your new kitchen.
