Does anyone have a shower blind? If so, can you tell me about them?

We have a shower over our bath that is rarely used (we have an ensuite which we all use). Currently it has a shower screen which is a pain - it is constantly swinging where it shouldn't, bashing against things and getting in the way. I don't like shower curtains since a mould incident some years ago. I'd never heard of shower blinds until I was researching alternatives. Does anyone have one? Are they any good? TIA.

I guess shower blinds aren't that popular!

I guess so! I always used to put shower curtains in the washing machine when they started getting grotty.

Is it literally a blind for your shower? Like a shower curtain that rolls up? What’s the benefit of it?

whirlyhead · 30/07/2023 06:23

I don’t have anything. I have a downwards pointing drench shower so not much water gets in the floor. I dislike shower screens and curtains.

never heard of a shower blind.

VinEtFromage · 30/07/2023 06:51

Nope sorry.

for various reasons I don't have anything. But sometimes I turn the bathroom floor into a pond! Other times not.

i prefer having nothing as it feels much roomier, but I need to get the shower screen re-installed (unused & in the spare room) But it's been 'temporarily' this way almost a decade now 😂 oops.

i wouldn't like a blind myself, I'd rather have the glass screen - maybe you need a new screen?? Mine is one pane of glass, hinged to sit from the near side of the bath along the edge of the bath (obviously 😂😂), pulls out so you can get in the shower/bath then goes across the bath to the far side wall when not in use. Original fitter installed it incorrectly & I got him to take it off so I could paint the walls & ceiling without it in the way, did the painting, liked the shower without it, so haven't reinstalled it.

before I did the bathroom I had a shower curtain, but it was pretty solid clear plastic, so it didn't flap about & stick to me. It was as easy to spray/wipe as a shower door - how about that?

or as someone else said, just put a lighter one through the washing machine. I used to put a previous 'soft' one through the machine fortnightly/3 weeks/monthly with the shower mat/floor cloths etc. not weekly with them because it's a little bit of a faff taking it off the rail.

@A34 my mum and Dad have a trifold shower screen that unfolded is plenty big enough even for the most outrageous shower flying around incident and then folds back to a tiny compact size. This could be an option.

MumUndone · 30/07/2023 07:26

We have a folding shower door like this. That seems to work well. Not heard of a shower blind before. https://www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/haro-4-fold-bath-screen?campaign=googlebase&gclid=CjwKCAjw8ZKmBhArEiwAspcJ7pZQti9AtWE2xShZnJ--jN8GqhYn4-Igj65AYRUUnke40bhOKkyzBoCjX0QAvDBwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

My brother and his wife have one… they love it. Does what it needs to then goes away once finished, much tidier looking.

Tereseta · 30/07/2023 08:04

Wouldn't the shower blind get mouldy if not absolutely dry once rolled back up?

Saisong · 30/07/2023 08:09

We have one on a cantilever arm, that folds away after use, with the curtain concertina-ed inside. It's a very tight space up against the bathroom door, so couldn't use a folding screen, plus very hard water so they look crap quickly.
It works absolutely fine, but we only use it occasionally, as we do have another shower. It comes with a bottle of spray that you use on it to prevent mould etc. We leave it out to completely dry before folding away. If it was for daily use I'm not sure there would be a big advantage over a regular curtain.

Bearpawk · 30/07/2023 08:31

Not what you're asking but stick my shower curtain in the washing machine every fortnight or so. It's fine.

enidblythe · 30/07/2023 08:49

In our lost home we had anscreen over the bath similar to what you describe OP.
But it leaked and moved etc.
so we used a shower curtain inside the screen. This stopped the leaking etc.I used rotate a few different ones and change it weekly pop it in the ma machiene m so mould build up was prevented

Thanks - will look at that.

Thanks - it sounds rather complicated!

I don't suppose you could give more detail could you? It sounds like what I'm looking for.

I’ve used a shower blind to cover a window and windowsill to stop leakage as it was adjacent to the shower. The first one went very mouldy, but it was in a B2L so can’t expect tenants to look after stuff like that.

However, it did work!
