Tiles throughout

Hello, does anybody have tiles throughout the hallway, dining area and kitchen and downstairs loo ? I don’t really want underfloor heating but we have animals on it’s just so convenient to just be able to mop all the way through for me. I was gonna choose a wood design I can’t see any disadvantages to this. What does everybody else think?

We do and it's great for pets. Had laminate in Last house but dog would slide and slip on it.

Yes, we only have carpet in the living room downstairs. Much easier to keep clean

We've got tiles throughout kitchen and dining room and they're so much more hardwearing and easy to clean than the engineered wood we've got in living room and hallway! So I can definitely see the upsides. Unclear from your OP whether you're going to have underfloor heating or not but I wouldn't have tiles without it as they get very cold in winter.

I must admit I was hoping not to do the tiles one with the underfloor heating only because I just don’t think this is a forever home. It seems an enormous investment and I’ve already put in the wood burner a new windows.

Would you really not consider it without? @MunsteadWood

We've got tiles throughout almost all of downstairs - hall, loo, kitchen and utility (have carpet in the living room) - so much easier to keep clean with a muddy smelly spaniel. No underfloor heating so it is cold in the winter but only on your feet. A good pair of rubber sole slippers with fleece lining and you'll be fine. We're a Victorian end of terrace by the way.

That’s us as well, and while I can see on advantage to put in under the floor heating in the extension I just think combined with the wood burner in the dining area. We will literally cook alive. I was gonna get Solar Panels in next year and maybe I could just put electric under the floor in the extension to stop at moulding.

We do, great to keep clean, they do get cold but that’s expected. Personally I would have gone for wood as I feel like that tends to be a bit warmer, also we have a little one crawling around now and I’m constantly worried he’s going to slip and faceplant the tiles, wood feels like it might be a little more forgiving!

My neighbour did. If it's a semi/terraced then just know that your neighbour will hear everything! We could hear every chair move, every echo - it drove me mad.

I'm not personally a fan as I find tiles can be very cold, but if you don't walk around barefoot all the time then I'm sure this is less of an issue. I'd be more inclined to go with LVT to be honest if you think temperature could be an issue.

I had tiles through most of the ground floor at a previous house , hall , kitchen bathroom , office, conservatory, wc, lobby and no underfloor heating , I didn’t find it cold and was the easiest option to keep clean living in a rural area with several dogs , I just swept or hoovered on dry days or mopped on muddy / wetter days , always looked and smelt clean

AllTheChaos · 26/07/2023 11:57

I stayed somewhere with wood effect tiles on the whole of the ground floor a few years ago. It was gorgeous! Comfy underfoot, and yes, much easier to clean.

Thank you, that’s reassuring

To be honest, they won’t be able to hear it over their music so we should be fine 🤣
I am gonna put rugs down I’m not a complete arsehole i promise

@3BSHKATS Ah well if there's rugs then you'll be fine, that'll make the world of difference to the 'cold' feeling too.

Sorry your neighbours are loud twits, glad you're more considerate!
