Buying house on A road (Orpington)

Hi folks, new to mumset.

We are considering to buy a house on the main road (Crofton Rd) in Orpington. We are not from the area so not sure of how bad the traffic is on that road. Our main concern is how difficult it will be for us to take our car out from the driveway everyday especially during peak traffic hours. Unfortunately, due to school holidays, we won't get to experience the real traffic situation which otherwise would have helped in making a decision. Keen to hear your views. :)

Thanks in advance!

Hi Nikitapseudonym,
We are in the same situation. Liked a house on crofton road. Did you end up buying or any feedback that helped with your decision ? If so, is traffic situation manageable? Thanks

Hi, we did end up buying and the traffic is absolutely manageable. I would say that it should be a point of contention at all.

Thanks for the prompt response, also if you could comment on the noise situation? Does the house get a lot of moving cars noise in the living/bedroom? We are considering a property on the side where the houses are relatively closer to the road. Thanks

I live on Crofton Road near the station. It's fine. I am very careful though as a lot of Newstead Woof girls will blindly walk out behind a reversing car without paying attention. But had no probs in the 10 years I've lived there.

Never seen a post on MN so unique to my situation!

As long as the windows are closed we don't hear the noise unless it's an ambulance, or something similar. That doesn't mean that you cannot open the windows and enjoy fresh air. During summers we have opened our road side windows during day time and the very light noise of moving vehicles does not bother us at all

I concur with Nikita. The houses closest to the road have their fronts north facing so tend not to open the windows at the front much. The back of house/gardens are south facing so open these windows much more and can't hear traffic in the back.

Hello - we are also looking to purchase to house (converted bungalow) on Crofton road, closer to the Annigton road. Does the noise get unmanageable at times? I noticed that I could hear the noise even when I am at the very end of the garden during evening around 6:30PM.
