Worthing, Goring, Ferring, Findon Valley

We are looking to move to Goring, Ferring or Findon Valley.
We are mixed couple - white / Indian with nearly 4 year old twins.
Would really appreciate comments from people who know the area on if they are nice places to bring up children. Worried not many families in Ferring. Thank you

Some areas of Goring are better than others!.
Findon Valley has one of the best primary schools in the area and also has lovely parks and the downs right on your doorstep with a good parade of shops but access to town isn't so good.
Ferring is lovely with a real village feel but definitely an older demographic although that is changing.
It very much depends on your budget and what sort of place you're looking for.

Thank you for responding. I am guessing you get more for your money in Ferring. Just worried if families are as welcome and seen some posts on social media from residents stating they moved there to retire and not have to listen to children etc! Really want the twins to make friends and for us to make friends with other families and be part of the community. So hard moving somewhere you don't know anyone!

I'd perhaps look at East Preston over Ferring, but Goring is nice enough. (Nothing wrong with Ferring but it us definitely retirement bungalow heavy). Or maybe Angmering?

OscarandLucinda · 24/07/2023 20:35

Out of those Ferring would actually be the most expensive and Findon the cheapest per m2 I would say. All are good options, second looking at East Preston as well.
All are family friendly though - Goring probably the most

Depends on your budget I think. I have lived in Goring and would probably opt for Findon or Angmering. The part of Goring we lived in did have a lot of young families but there was also a lot of crime and deprivation. Our neighbours were very blatantly selling drugs outside our house every day and multiple neighbours smoked weed which was lovely given how close the houses and gardens were together. No real community on our estate, lots of rubbish and dog shit left on the pavements. We left for these reasons once we had DD and realised it wasn't that great a place to bring her up, I couldn't imagine letting her go off to the shop or park alone at primary age without being worried. Worthing as a whole is a bit of a nightmare to drive into or out of, so I would also think about where you need to get to on a regular basis and how easy that will be. PM me if you like and good luck.

I've lived in goring, now in Durrington. The roads around The Strand are horrible, but just over the bridge by the leisure centre is very nice. You get pockets of shite amongst quite reasonable stuff in Durrington and goring. Avoid Durrington junior and Durrington high.

Finding is nice but expensive. High salvington is lovely if you don't mind being near the A27

CandyLeBonBon · 24/07/2023 20:48

Ferring is weird chocolate box bungalows that remind me of the village in Hot fuzz!

CandyLeBonBon · 24/07/2023 20:50

If it's any consolation op, I live on a new estate in Durrington and there's a proper local community- we have regular activities (recently a street party for the coronation) and there are people from all ethnicities and backgrounds here - definitely family friendly, quiet, safe and family oriented.

Doggymummar · 24/07/2023 20:51

I guess it depends on your budget. Worthing has some nice areas, Findon is lovely, OH lived in Goring and says it's a shit hole. East Preston lovely and angmering too

VivienneDelacroix · 24/07/2023 20:54

I have a friend who moved from Findon village because of the levels of middle class drug use amongst parents at the school. She said it is a pretty accepted thing in the village.

Thank you for all of your replies. So much to consider!

I can comment well having lived all over London and Brighton too. Can confirm Worthing is a great place if you want:
-A lovely quiet beach
-Beautiful countryside and walking nearby
-Friendly safe community, quite diverse ethnically and queer friendly
-Very good cafes restaurants pubs and bars (both traditional and also natural wines bars and small plates etc, craft breweries for Brighton vibes)
-Good schools
-Leafy parks
-Decent town centre with walkable shops
-Three train stations(!) and an easy enough commute straight to Victoria/East Croydon/Clapham, and Brighton of course
-Decent parking (especially compared to Brighton)
-And affordable homes! I bought my three bedroom house in a good area for only 30k more than my one bedroom flat in Brighton-For us it's been a no brainer and we love it, we're in our 30s and lots of our friends are following suit.
-Best areas: Check it out in person. Personally we're near the station on a leafy nice street, Tarring (West) is also desirable. But the best way to ascertain is to go and walk around.
