Do you have herringbone LVT?

Just wondering how long people have had it for, mainly to check if it’s a thing that will go out of fashion or if it’s been around long enough to presume it’ll last the rest of time? I have avoided a coloured kitchen (blue and now seemingly green etc) as I know I’ll change my mind when it’s no longer ‘in’, just like I hate my grey walls now!

So, how long have you had your herringbone flooring and do you still love it?

We've had Herringbone LVT down for about 5 years and still get lots of compliments on it.

We considered herringbone LVT but decided it might be a bit much as we wanted the same flooring all the way through our hall and open plan kitchen/dining room/playroom. We went with normal, straight planks of oak effect LVT in the end and I really like it. The straight lines make the space look nice and big and open.

That said I have a sage green kitchen so I'm sure I'm hideously 2022 😉

@EuniceNewtonFoote Thank you, we are very proud of our floor 😂 It’s been down for about a year now. If you were to crawl around on your hands and knees you’d see a few scratches but you have to actively look for them. The natural grain of the wood masks it very well. A tradesman dropped a breaker on it last year and that has left a small 1cm dent, but it can be sanded and restained if we could be bothered (which we can’t, it looks more like a small knot in the grain anyway).

Think it was from a place called Floor Giant, there’s a few around South Wales. It feels lovely under barefoot. We’re planning to have the same wood in all the bedrooms eventually as the colour goes with everything. The only room that’s different is the kitchen, which is natural slate tile.

RidingMyBike · 24/07/2023 14:02

We have it, but the narrow herringbone like parquet in one room only. The rest, including kitchen is large plank style.

I don't think it will date as such. We had original parquet in a previous house which looked lovely and not dated (other than in keeping with age of house). Would have loved to have real parquet again but the LVT is more practical and looks almost as good.

Bananaspliff · 24/07/2023 17:36

We have had ours down since 2017, still looks as good as new, still love it. We had the classic parquet size LVT tiles in shades of oak.

OhDN · 22/08/2023 15:27

Just nipping back to say we went for it in the end! Thank you! After a last minute wobble (hence my question here) we were reassured and has she LVT fitted. We absolutely love it and have invested in a spray mop and some nice smelling floor cleaner so fingers crossed it lasts well! 🤞

Oooh that looks lovely!

I'm trying to choose currently. Got a Harvey Maria herringbone sample but decided to go for stone look outer with pattern inner combo from Harvey Maria.

BlueMongoose · 22/08/2023 20:44

We're going to put in solid oak wood parquet. We'd thought of the traditional 3-in-a-square type, we had it in our 60s house, but you can't get that on backed sets these days, and it's probably a bit small. 5-finger-square sets would be too fussy here, as the rooms are bigger. I didn't fancy herringbone, I thought, too school-y and the blocks you can get seemed too long. In the end we are going for herringbone, but having the blocks cut to a different size- not quite as long. Luckily we have a local firm who will cut whatever size blocks we want from the seasoned timber.

Oh thank you! We just added the final parts to the dining area today. Really happy with it!

What a transformation!

I think it’s very 2022. Neighbour chose hers last year before moving in (new build) and is already regretting it. But if you love it then go for it, these things come and go anyway.

I disagree. I've been looking at Amtico and Karndean recently as we will shortly be getting some flooring replaced by our insurers. Herringbone parquet itself is classic although it has become more fashionable in recent years. The type of LVT you use will potentially date it. There's a lot of blonde/pale/highly grained stuff currently in fashion. Something more classic of itself would look less current and is therefore less likely to date.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 23/08/2023 15:14

Looks good OP. That design is chevron rather than herringbone by the look of it? What a transformation getting rid of that bank of units dividing the space - so much more open and inviting.

hartof · 23/08/2023 15:17

We had ours done 3 years ago and I still love it. I was really worried before we did it that it would age and I'd end up hating it but that's not been the case.

Actually I agree with your disagreement. True herringbone parquet is classic. (Although I still think it would look odd in a 2023 new build).

However I think most LVT “herringbone” is actually chevron. And I (personally) think it will date. Certainly my neighbour felt hers had already dated.

I do think OP’s looks lovely though. What a transformation ❤

Thanks very much! I agree-I hated how it divided the space. We took a wall out behind the old oven/hon too which also makes such a difference!

No it’s definitely herringbone. I wasn’t keen on chevron personally.

We just got herringbone and it looks amazing to me - but you do need to get real wood or it looks rubbish as there isn't enough variation in colour and texture.

I would probably disagree with the lack of variation point. But happy to be corrected. This is our LVT and I think it's not bad with regard to variation

CupEmpty · 23/08/2023 18:16

It’s the plank length, that’s the main issue, not the variation.

May I ask which make and colour LVT you went with please. Finding it hard to decide.
