DIY for beginners course?

Is there a course that teaches the basic of DIY? My house is falling to bits, my ex husband used to refuse topay anyone to do anything at home and would do it badly himself and my house is just full of awful looking bodge jobs as well as just generally falling to bits. Now I’m on my own I can’t afford to pay anyone to do minor repairs around the house but things are getting really depressing with doors etc falling off, walls needing repaired etc. I try to follow YouTube videos but just end up wasting money on supplies etc for it to all fall to bits again! Help!

Hello, I've tried to find your website but it doesn't seem to work. Is there somewhere I can find out more? Thank you!

I would love a diy buddy / course

I have assembled an impressive array of power tools (damn you ALDI middle aisle!)and DIY theory, but not the necessary skills to apply either. Like pp I lack strength and patience, and also dexterity. I’ve been doing up a poorly maintained Victorian house for the last year, but have been constantly frustrated by how little I can do myself. Currently I keep my excellent local handyman in gainful employment.

Oh, just noticed this is a zombie thread. Looks like DIY buddying never got off the ground…

We run DIY courses in Bristol - lots of beginners courses - female tutors and 90% of our customers are women. It’s fantastic. I love it. We have customers from all over the UK, because there aren’t many people running hands-on DIY courses. We also come and teach you DIY skills in your own home. Check us out bePractical DIY

I think it was my post, I can’t see it anymore on here (I did get in trouble for mentioning it as well) but sadly I had to stop the SheFixers idea due to illness. We had wanted to work with BePractical though!

Watching with interest - I so want to be a DIY expert

Sorry to hear that Lexi8. Real shame. Its very hard getting things going for Female Trades.
There are still not enough of us out there, which is why I'm trying the bePractical approach; empowering women with knowledge and skills to help them feel protected when dealing with unscrupulous tradespeople.
I've had enough of hearing the stories of bad experiences - shoddy work, bullying, overcharging. There is a real expectation that you are more likely to be ripped off than have a positive experience, which is a terrible state of affairs.
Its so good to see people leaving our courses with the knowledge and skills to feel that they can challenge bad practice in the future, safe in the knowledge, that they can come to us to check things out, and we'll support them to do that.

One day, I really hope these kinds of stories will be gone.

The Builder Training Centre does one for £250

For anyone looking for a course, check your local college. Mine does an intro to DIY evening course that always books up instantly. Hopefully I will get a place one day!
