Scaffolding put up on my land

Scaffolders turned up at my neighbours this morning and I've come home to find scaffolding encroaching on my front garden and in my flower bed. It has annoyed me as no one asked me or mentioned anything. Are they allowed to just do that? If I had been asked I would probably have allowed it.

I don’t think they are allowed to do that without your permission, @Dojoqueen!

You have a couple of options - contact your neighbours and tell them they don’t have permission to have their scaffolding on your land and either you want it moved, or you want an agreement (in writing) that they will make good any damage afterwards, or you fume and say nothing.

Your neighbours may not have known in advance that the scaffolding would be on your land, scaffolders tend to be a law unto themselves. They may of course but might be worth checking. Agree with the poster above about getting an agreement in writing.

We had 90% of next door's scaffolding on our front garden for nine months,he did discuss it with us first though(unusual for him).

I'd have wanted it removed otherwise.

Perhaps your neighbours didn't know it would need to go onto your land. We recently had work done which required scaffolding at 1 side of house, we were out when it went up (at weekend) & didn't know it would need to extend onto our neighbours driveway due to chimney height. We did go straight round to chat to them & let them know I'd already asked workmen & it would only be 2 days, thankfully they were fine about it. I also bought them a very nice bottle of wine & large box of expensive chocs after it came down to say thanks. Why not chat to them about it?

We had neighbours scaffolding on our driveway for a good couple of months, but they asked first and bought us a card and gift voucher after.
I wouldn't be v happy about not being asked.

Thank you, yes it is more the fact no one asked. Next door is let by the council so I assume I would just speak to the council about the scaffolding being on my land?

Yes,I'd speak to the council.

They should be able to tell you how long it'll be before the job is stripped if nothing else.
