Hello,

Has anyone painted a north facing room in Green. I’m looking for a light or mid tone green that is warm in colour. If you have done this then Photos are much appreciated. So far im lo ii g tracery 2 from little Greene but am worried it will be too dark in a north facing room .

We went for 'Sunday Stroll' for our North-facing sitting room on three walls, with 'Fiddlesticks' on the fourth wall, the opposite the window, to make more of the light by reflecting it back from the window into the room. The combination seems to work very well. It goes nicely with a large brass light fitting and we have dark wood furniture in there, but it still feels light- though it has a large bay window.

We have to use claypaints in that room (lime plaster)- in a previous house we had a colour called 'Moorland' for the darker three walls on our South-facing sitting room- that's an old British Standard colour that is similar to, but a little a little darker than, 'Sunday Stroll'. Though I;d have picked Moorland had it been possible, now I have seen it in action, in a North facing room, I think Sunday Stroll works better than Moorland would have done.
Earthborn do proper sample tins, BTW, if you ever use their paints it's definitely worth getting one before you commit, as claypaints do take light differently to standard emulsions. Claypaints let walls breathe, cost more, lower sq m coverage, but needs fewer coats. Not hardwearing or washable, but the surface is like velvet and disguises irregularities in plaster better than standard emulsions do. Gorgeously easy to put on.

I use Dulux Absolute White Light and Space (trade) matt emulsion on ceilings. L&S paints reflect light better than any paint I have ever used, even if matt- great where you need to make most of what light there is in a darkish room.

Oh, and earthborn do non-clay paints too, in the same colours, IIRC.

@BlueMongoose I’ve never heard of eastborn paint but it’s a great idea to paint the wall opposite the window in white to reflect light back that’s a fab idea

I've painted 2 walls out of 3 with Dulux heritage sage green in my north facing lounge. The other I went with the coordinating Wishbone white to keep it from being too dark. The white is quite 'cool' with much more grey undertone than I expected but I love the sage green and it's definitely not too dark- I'm a total light-lover - never painted darker than a magnolia before - and was really paranoid about making myself depressed with a dark room. I really love it, really calming. It's very much a blue-green rather than a yellow-green though, which is what I initially was aiming at but I just didn't like the tones of anything I tried (I tried FAR TOO MANY testers!)

We have F&B old white and it's lovely.
I like your choice too!

We tried several greens in a N facing room and found a slightly warm/yellow undertone was needed - no blue. Vert de Terre (F&B) worked well.

Have a look at Aquamarine by little Greene. Comes in 4 depths - light, pale, aquamarine mid and aquamarine (or thereabouts…). I used one of them in a bedroom and 3(!) in the kitchen. I wasn’t sure if I would like it, looking at it on my phone screen but loved it when I sampled it on my walls.

Whatever colour you paint it will probably look green!

@minipie I absolutely adore verte de terre colour but I’m not keen on farrow and ball in general. I’ve tried it once and you either have to use a primer or lots of extra coats to get a good finish which end up costing more money than other brands like little Greene and mylands which just needs 2 coats for good finish . Keen to know how you find it and if it’s worth another try?

Yep I have heard that about F&B vs LG. Little Greene will do (very good) colour matches including for F&B paint colours.
