Front door cost?

I am looking to get a new front door, with stained glass, and storm doors. I am struggling to get an idea of how much this might be online and don’t want to get people out for a quote if it is wildly out of my range. If you’ve had similar done recently could you let me know how much? Thank you 🙂

£1000, not inc fitting.

Thank you!

Depends - are you looking at wood (hard or soft), composite, uPVC? How much glass? Presume double glazed? Locking systems? Etc etc. Lots of things can affect the price.

Wood, quite a lot of glass ideally. The top half of the door

I got a composite door with Rennie MacIntosh style glass on the top section & it was £1200

We got a composite this year. Was quoted £1200 for one door and £1800 for a very similar smarter/looking door from
the same company. Got the £1800 one.

Wood and stained glass I think would cost a lot more though. Be aware too that solid wood will warp, it’ll need occasional sanding /repainting. But it’s a lovely look I know.

We have recently renovated. We are Sth East/East Anglia. Composite side door was £1200. Solid oak front door, with a glass panel at the top (not stained glass) was £3000- made locally.

The stained glass could be £1000 alone, depending on the design/colours etc.

If wood, make sure the timber IS NOT 'SAPELE' (an African wood) - which is sometimes sold as 'oak' - as it was to me.

My front door lasted less than six years, before it had to be replace. In that time parts of the door had become so rotten, you could stick your finger into it, as if it were a sponge cake.

Thank you all! Really appreciate it. Looks like solid wood would be out of our price range so I’ll get some quotes for composite

Composite here £1750! Can't believe yours have been so cheap! A plastic one would be cheaper.

I looked into composite doors to replace my French doors, and they weren't cheap.

I went right off the idea when I read that composite can also warp, and that the industry standard allows for warpage of up to 5% out of true. Since my plan of replacing my doors was because the wood had warped, I dropped the idea!

Then what you had was not Sapele.

That wood doesn't rot.

I got a quote from The London Door Company.... in 2021 the quote was £5,000. In 2023 it was 'starting from' £8,000. They are beautiful doors, and that was with a new frame, side panels and stained glass. Almost had a heart attack.

We still have our old door.

£8k! No chance would I pay £8k for a door when I have a bathroom that needs doing
