Pimlico area in London

DD and her boyfriend are about to move to London after going to uni in Scotland.

They're wanting to save for a deposit but also live centrally and live the 'London lifestyle'. They think Pimlico might suit because it's central, 30 mins to work, has that 'Naice London' feeling to it and they've found a lovely high ceiling Georgian flat which is high on their bucket list after living in Edinburgh.

What's Pimlico like? Before we moved to live in Hong Kong we lived in London in the 90s, then Pimlico was posh! But it seems rents are a lot more reasonable than neighbouring Chelsea etc

I lived in Pimlico as a 27 year old and absolutely loved it. Quiet, beautiful streets and close enough to central London. It is extremely expensive though. My one bed flat was £2,500 a month. If they can afford it then I would highly recommend.

Pimlico is a nice, safe area, nothing exciting and has decent transport links.
However it can feel like a tourist area with its proximity to Victoria station and lots of hostels.
It wouldn’t be my first choice if I was in my mid 20s.

I lived in a house share in Pimlico for my first year in a grad role 20yrs ago. It was great as it was only 20 min commute to the City by tube or an easy run and all night buses terminate in Victoria. It was, however, very dull with none of our friends living anywhere near by. Again, not a massive issue as it is so well connected to public transport but we did always have to travel to see friends rather than just walk to each others which is what those living in places like Balham were able to do.

If it were a choice between Pimlico or Balham, it would be Pimlico every time. One of my very favourite parts of London. I have lived there or within walking distance almost all my adult life.

It is so very central, perfect for high earning young people who work long hours and so like to be close to the office and able to jump on a bus, get in a taxi or just walk after an evening out. Far less staid than more expensive areas like Belgravia or Chelsea, safe, and quite real, with a market and normal things like the Queen Mum Leisure Centre, supermarkets, libraries and schools. Not far from St James and Battersea Parks. Pimlico also has a number of good, but low key restaurants.

A good choice.
