Moving house. Carpets and curtains advice!

I haven’t moved house for about 20 years and I’m panicking about the small things. I’m happy to leave the carpets and curtains and wonder if it’s usual to make a charge for them. My partner is insisting we do, whilst I’m thinking that if the buyers don’t want to pay we’ll end up having to take them all with us. We still have unused curtains from our old house in the attic!

You come across as very grabby OP.

Curtains can be handy if not able to replace with ones you're bringing with you/don't want the hassle of hanging curtains on moving day, but I'd not pay for them unless they were custom made for the windows and also to my taste (but I'd not pay anything like cost).

Asking for money for carpets is ludicrous.

In our last move our vendors kept trying to sell us things and then offering to leave them as a "favour" when we said no. Actually they were just trying to dump stuff on us that wouldn't fit into their new house and we had to be crystal clear that we expected them to be removed. Don't be that vendor.

Charging for carpets?!?!! 😂😂😂

When we've moved curtains / blinds were included with the sale no extra charge as per EA advice - we swapped a couple of pairs we wanted to take with us as they matched bedding etc.

Previous owner of our house left a whole pile of crap - charged them via the EA for the rubbish removal cost - the loft, garage, shed and every cupboard had stuff rammed in them! We did use the curtains they left as dust sheets though (not fit for anything else!).

The CF was if we were leaving the freestanding FF and washing machine 🤨 nope! We did offer and it was accepted to leave a set of drawers for X amount but discussed that directly with the buyer as they matched the fitted wardrobes and wouldn't have fitted in our new home.

I was told by an EA that if you tip the house upside down anything that doesn't fall out must stay (this was when an ex seller tried to tell me the kitchen wasn't fittings!). I've always left carpets because refitting carpets is expensive and looks rubbish and the carpets I've left are quite new. They may not be to the new owners taste although they've always been plain.

Curtains if I'm attached to them I've taken. But I left curtains and blinds in my last house.

I've never charged a buyer for anything I've left.

Jesus, can’t believe this is still going on? Who on Earth is still taking the old carpets when they move house?

Include them in the sale, otherwise you are risking a lower offer as the buyers calculate how much it will cost them to replace with a brand new one.

I'm taking some blinds and poles simply as the house I'm moving into has not a single blooming curtain pole and some of mine were pretty expensive. We have filled all the holes and painted. I'm leaving poles and curtains plus blinds in the bedrooms and living rooms so they don't have to worry about that.
