Painting over porcelain to hide scrape marks…?

Yo! I just moved into a new house. The toilet bowl in the bathroom looked like it had something nasty stuck around the rim, so I used a scraper on it… but all the scraper did was scrape off some of the white surface of the porcelain, and for some reason it’s dark grey underneath and now it looks like there’s a dirty great streak in my toilet bowl and it looks even worse than it did before!! I tried painting over it with white paint but the paint is TOO white so the colour doesn’t match. Does anyone know of a good paint-ish type product I can use to hide this mark?!

A very timely post.

DS has scratched the porcelain of ours this evening, it now looks like it’s got a skid mark down the back at the bottom. It’s under the waterline too. I’m so mad.

I know there are products/paints & was going to start a post asking if anyone could recommend a particular one, but bumping this n as we are both in the same boat.

Try a 'magic eraser' scourer and Pink Stuff paste. I get these scrapes in my Belfast sink and this combination gets rid of them easily.

Posca marker pens. I believe they can be used on stone or ceramics. I use them for colouring. I have pure white and cream.

Worse case, buy both, mix on a plate and quickly apply with a thin paintbrush.

I do have pink stuff paste, will see if I can get a magic eraser. Looks like I’m donning the rubber gloves today!

I will check out the pens.

thanks for the suggestions.

Thank you for all the suggestions! There’s a few things I can try there.

@FishOnAPlane please let me know how you get on!

@Pegs11 The Pink Stuff worked!
No magic eraser as I live in a small town with limited shops so I just used a kitchen sponge & put loads of paste on.
If I stare really intently with my head practically down the loo I can sort of see where it was but any visitor won’t see it. However, DH scratched behind the seat hinge a couple of years ago & I tried it on that, it hasn’t worked as well on the dry area for some reason, I will keep trying though as it has slightly improved. I just don’t want to rub more scratches in as the pink stuff is abrasive anyway.

thank you @CutesyUserName

@FishOnAPlane I’m glad the pink stuff worked for you! I’ve just ordered some… fingers crossed I will soon have a gleaming bowl again 😊

Silly question but have you tried bleach and see if it turns white naturally?

FishOnAPlane · 12/07/2023 14:59

@Pegs11 Brilliant!

@Echio bleach doesn’t work but @CutesyUserName thankfully gave us the magic fix.

This is why I love MN sometimes, some very knowledgeable people on here Smile
