Silent Gliss rail in bay - tricky to fit?

I've just had a quote for supplying and fitting a curtain rail in our bay. I'm wondering whether we really need to pay for fitting or whether we can do it between us. It is due to be set on the wood surround of the windows rather than ceiling or anything really complex. Or would we massively regret it, do you think. We're reasonably competent DIYers, but not experts.

I fitted our own, it was relatively easy. I used a Silent Gliss flexible curtain rail from Dunelm, and have a very large bay window with a shallow / oblique angles. I used a couple more fixing brackets than the previous rail had, and it had a jointing bracket in the middle due to the length, it curved around the bay well. I used a handheld electric screwdriver/ drill but amn’t massively skilled in DIY.

Thanks. That's good to know. Ours is going to be a non-flexible one, bent to shape to fit in the bay. Fitting charge is about £280 for this and a smaller straight one. If I can save some money it would really help but I don't want it to be a false economy.

When I had quotes for silent gliss ones I nearly cried.

I then found you can get a custom made cast iron one (fit yourself - very straight forward) for about £200 - 300 all in.

We got one bent to shape and it arrived all wiggly up and down. After complaining they redid it and it was perfect.
Took about an hour to fit and that included finding the drill and vacuuming up.
I wouldn't pay someone, as long as it's been bent correctly. The hard part is measuring the shape of the bay accurately, ours is a square bay but it wasn't actually 90 degrees or equal depth on both sides

Could I ask where from? I'm looking for one soon.

Just tried to find the link but the website appears to not work. I last bought from them at the beginning of 2020. The email address is Celtic Dreams Ironwork <[email protected]> - Maybe pop them an email?

They were truly great - have ordered 3 from them in the past - you have to do loads of measurements and then (I think) they draw it out on the floor to make sure everything works. I hope they are still in business.

That's really helpful. I think we'll give it a go ourselves.
