I've just bought a new house. I still have my old house for a short crossover.

I am struggling to know what to do with my miving in meter readings.

My old house is with Octopus. I can't easily online transfer that across as I don't want to cut off the old house yet.

New house was with EDF for previous owner. I can't find a way to contact them without being a customer already.

What am I meant to do? Why is it so hard to find a phone number these days? Who will I owe for the electricity I've used since getting the keys on Monday?

Thanks

You can set up a new accounts with whoever you want, but the easiest would prob be the existing supplier. I just did this with British Gas and honestly it was bananas how you went round and round in circles on their website. I'm usually the one everyone asks to sort out their online stuff and computers etc and I was just stuck in a loop of links going nowhere.

I eventually got through on their chat bots by typing 'speak to an advisor' several times (otherwise they go round in circles too!!). Once I was with someone they managed everything via the chat. So - that's my top tip.

Or, for a phone number, sometimes it's easier to come out of the supplier website and google 'supplier customer services phone number' or similar. Bonkers, but true!

If youre moving to Octopus soon Iwouldn't worry. My friend had a similar problem. Went round I'm circle's with the supplier with no success. The supplier she moved to did everything. Contacted the old supplier etc, arranged the transfer & once it was done it automatically generated a final bill

Yes, you will need to pay the existing supplier for standing charges and any usage from the day you got the keys. They will probably send you a "new occupier" letter if the old occupiers tell them they have moved out.

Octopus took 2 or 3 working days to move us over in a similar situation.

Take photos of the new meters asap, if not already done.

Some can’t. Octopus couldn’t sort a transfer for me last year until I had dumped e.On.

Couldn't you add the new house onto your existing account with octupus? Then remove the old house once sold/moved?

We have 2 houses on our account with them.
