Not sure what's normal or not

I mean, it's not what you want!

I don't know what they can do about it but presumably you're covered by NHBC. I would definitely raise it in snagging.

Take videos with sound.

I did a bit of googling and theres a lot of construction remedy but it sounds pretty massive to have to undertake and I'm sure they'd want to wriggle out of jt if at all possible! This is why I'm asking what's expected or not. Would be a shame to find i could have resolved it in the snagging, and didn't, then gave myself a massive bill in the future

I know you mentioned new build but my 1905 house vibrates when buses abs trucks drive by, we are on a busy main road but it’s still only 30mph.

Whataretheodds · 06/07/2023 12:23

Err on the side of raising everything and make it their job to exclude or address.

Shakes when buses and lorries go by?
I used to live on a busy road and a fault in the road made the house shake when a bus hit it.
I got the council out and they repaired the road, end of shaking.

Sometimesgood · 06/07/2023 17:37

Oh! That would be brilliant if the council did it!

Yea mine is 30 as well, though the sort of road people do 40 easily and get away with it

It only shakes me if I am upstairs, but plants shake downstairs, not me, if that makes sense. When I'm in bed the movement makes me feel travel sick sometimes!

@C4tastrophe can I ask how you managed to get her council to look at it? Is there some policy you quoted they twisted their arm - or were there a lot do households affected?

It's really hard to live with it and it's only one side of the road I've noticed, and only really heavy trucks. But it literally shakes my bed as though someone were yanking the post at the end of the bed to wake me up!

If I remember correctly, I just called them up. This was many years ago, but it went quite well.
Ideally you would be able to identify what the issue is, so maybe spend an afternoon investigating.

stayathomegardener · 15/07/2023 23:03

I'd be knocking on neighbours doors to look at group action and forcing the issue.

Sounds unliveable and potentially unsaleable in the future.

Really don't let this slide.

This sounds terrible. Definitely get on top of it. I would be permanently anxious if a road did that to my bed.

Can you switch bedrooms in the meantime?

Batalax · 15/07/2023 23:51

Raise it as an issue and talk to the neighbours.

Thanks. Which department do you even call?

The two properties on one side are unoccupied and the other side is a 4 story office block so unlikely to be affected the same. Beyond that is a field so nobody living there.
