Kidbrooke?

Is Kidbrooke a nice place to live pkease does anyone know? I know there isn't much going on there but it seems to be well connected and could walk or take a bus to Blackheath or Greenwich. The new builds look like and the prices are reasonable for London.

We're looking for a terraced house in a nice, safe neighbourhood in London. Commuting to Victoria but only once or twice a week. Its just the 2 of us, we only need a 3 bedroom and our budget is up to £600k (but would prefer to spend less and be mortgage-free faster).

We love Crystal Palace and the surrounding area but think the hills might become too much for us as we age (we're in our 50s and DH has arthritis in his knees). Obviously Kidbrooke doesn't have the same "buzz" but busier areas should be easy enough to get to and it would be nice to be somewhere that feels really safe and secure.

Lots of these Victorian terraces in Charlton. Good transport links, shops nearby, short bus/train ride to Blackheath or Greenwich or in the opposite direction to Crossrail/river development in Woolwich.

Just look properly in Charlton. My DB and SIL looked there and weren’t overly impressed by 2 ex colleagues of mine both live there and like it. I only really know the area by the Lido but it looks quite suburban round there and quiet.

How about something like this in Bromley for £475 ? It's def a better option than Kidbrooke- we rented quite near their many years ago and it was horrible. Rough and charmless - at least Bromley has facilities and is a proper place.

@Yikesno If you like CP but not the hills, have you thought about Penge? £600k should get you a decent 3 bed Victorian house in a nice road and there's a great mix of practical shops and nice 'treat' shops/cafes/pubs/restaurant, plus CP is only a short hop on the bus away. Never understand why they put two toilets into a house that size. Leave it as a regular bathroom and have at least one good sized bedroom.

I know someone who lived in a flat in Kidbrooke and they were burgled eight times. But this was before 1994 when they moved so it may be better now.

Hi all! I've been reading these comments - I'm looking at settling down in the Kidbrooke/Eltham area too but I'm unsure as I don't know the area! Looking at moving somewhere within 15 min walk to Kidbrooke station, likely in the SE9 region - any thoughts or advice? Reading through the comments it seems mixed - but not sure if there are different parts of Kidbrooke to consider? Would really appreciate any advice! Thank you!!

No it's horrible! We lived quite close many years ago and you would have to pay me to live in that but of London

Probably help if you say why you want to live there. Might shatter some illusions or confirm some hopes.

Good point! Looking at settling down with my partner. We need somewhere with good connections to London, and a good place to start a family. Not looking for somewhere with a lot of night life, but just somewhere safe with green areas close by.

BovineJuice · 18/08/2023 08:38

Ok that makes sense but you haven't answered why you specifically asked about Kidbrooke? Is it because it's cheap? Or is it about getting into Charing Cross, etc?
