Kitchen/diner question

Currently have a quite large kitchen and diner. Looking at replacing kitchen and with current floor space we would need two L shapes to make kitchen work. I've had a few designs and don't love any. Can have sink and hob close together then oven and fridge further away.

Would it be very strange to swap kitchen and diner around? This would mean you would walk into diner, through to kitchen. French doors would be in kitchen.

I just can't picture it, but the spaces would work better for both. Although kitchen would be in one L, but I'm sure it would join better.

I think a diagram would help here

Can't draw.

Shaded areas are kitchen units, worktops sink etc.

W = windows
Lines are doors to garden
Square with circles table and chairs

I would keep kitchen first. I wouldn’t want to have to walk around dining table every time I went to and from kitchen.

Plus would prefer sitting at table with garden view

I wouldn’t have oven where you have to walk across room to worktop though for safety of walking into people. You need sink, oven and hob together, fridge fine separated. Just have oven under hob is easiest

I would do smaller kitchen area opposite hall as floor to ceiling. Put built in fridge freezer here, and pantry like storage.

Then the other L shape as all low cabinets with a few shelves above so it’s not so closed in

I think it’s better dining first but would consider if table could be pushed against wall with window if you only needed 3 sides for ‘normal’ use then pull out when needed

Definitely A, I think a long kitchen would look a bit strange.

If you need extra storage you could always put plates in a cabinet in the dining end of the room

@Caspianberg this won't work because of window. Definitely also want two eye level ovens.

That was re kitchen opposite hall.

I think I would find it strange walking around table. Think it could also be a dumping ground if you get there first.

B is much better. It makes no sense having to walk through a kitchen all the time. It is disruptive, and potentially dangerous. B also moves cooking smells and mess further from the main part of the house.

Nothing wrong with a long kitchen, and both areas have good windows.

You don't give any dimensions. If the dining space in B is too snug, or the chicane around the table too tight, would you consider a round table in the corner? Round tables work very well in corners, and can be pulled out or extended for more diners. It would also give you space against the right hand wall for a sofa, closed units for storage for infrequently used things, or open units for display.

I have my doors to garden in the kitchen area.. I walk into the room, I have a seating area with couple of sofas and tv on my right and straight ahead I go to kitchen. The back of the peninsula on the right is the back of the sofa. I then have a kitchen table by the patio doors.

Works fine for me.
