And how long will it take? Will have 2 preschoolers at home with me so need to know how much disruption it will cause. I guess te house will be freezing while it is all going on

it will be cold, there may be dust and you will have to make lots of tea It's suprising how quickly they do it though

posieflump · 23/02/2008 12:03

will it be okay to go out and leave them to it do you think?

Its not too bad they do one window at atime ande if they are good it is quite quick and painless! Not too cold if you keep moving rooms. Are you having the whole house done? That takes about 3 days

somersetmum · 23/02/2008 12:05

Not bad at all, but I would take the kids out and leave them to it. Just show them where the kettle is before you go.

posieflump · 23/02/2008 12:06

yes whole house done
think it is 10 windows and 2 doors
it is an old house and windows are very rotten
thanks for quick replies, you are all giving me hope it won't be too bad!

I had the same amount of doors and windows replaced a couple of years ago and it took 2 days to complete. Work took place in January and it was freezing cold. I went out and left them to get on with it - told them to help themselves to coffee and tea and left a plateful of biscuits for them.

were you ack by the time they left each day? Would it be ok to give them keys if they want to go out at lunchtime do you think/ thye can always put themthrough the letterbox at end of the day.
Altjough I guess they will be ding the front door anyway so they would need to leave new keys if I can't get back in time

Hi pf.

Well, look at it this way: they already have the keys to your new doors, so I can't possibly see the harm of giving them a key to a door that they're going to throw on a skip in a few days anyway. Just don't forget to ask them each day if they're going to fit the new door that day. If they are, make sure you get a key from them before you leave. You'll probably have to be there on the last day, to do a satisfaction check thing before they leave - this involves signing something to say they've done all the work and left the house in a tidy condition.

thanks everyone
Work started today and they will be here at least until Thursday
They are very nice and friendly and even hoovered the rooms they've already done!
