North East Garden, North West House

FTBs here and we liked a property which is facing North West and the garden is North East.

I'm trying to understand how bright the house is going to be. I am aware that south facing garden is more preferred. We viewed on a sunny afternoon and the house seems bright in all the rooms, which is good. But I'd like to know how the house is going to be in winter. I'd prefer natural sun light is all rooms and rather be hot than cold.

Please share your experiences. This is the only concern I have with the house atm and would like to get some advice. Attaching the picture for ref, thanks!

I don’t know about the house but we’ve just moved into a north east facing garden and it’s so hot and bright! I was so worried about it and needn’t have been. The sun sets from the west and we have bright spots until 6pm.

Oh actually looking at your house - it looks similar position to ours. So we have sun at the back in the morning (where we have the kitchen, so sunny breakfasts), and then it moves so that the front room is sunny in the afternoon. We love it because it means we have a cool room at the back during hot days.

When you're trying to figure out how bright a house is going to be you need to look at where the windows are facing rather than the whole house itself.

The bay window is facing mostly South so that room should be bright most of the time and that side will be the warmer side of the house.

The kitchen will be on the cooler side of the house which I prefer for cooking in the summer but it's really just personal preference whether that works for you or not. Depending on the heights of the nearby garages you might get some nice light on that side later in the day.

Thank you all for sharing! Yes my understanding is that living room and the bedrooms on that side will be brighter/warmer compared to kitchen and the other bedrooms. It’s good to know that kitchen gets some morning sun.
