London neighbourhoods that have a real sense of community

Just that really! I have lived in one, loved it; now live in a little more suburban London and it’s not quite the same.

Which London neighbourhoods have the best sense of community? Close and small and welcoming? Also a fairly walkable neighbourhood would be good?

Islington - around Angel. Real community spirit in the St Peter’s and Arlington conservation area. Lots going on. It’s a low traffic neighbourhood, loads of independent shops and Zone 1 excellent public transport, so very walkable.

Hackney! Best place I've ever lived for community.

Crouch End, Stroud Green and Wimbledon all felt like that when we were still in London

I think you often get pockets of this. It's easier where you don't live on a main road and so see neighbours more. My road in East Greenwich has a very active WhatsApp, Street parties etc. Quiet ish Street of Victorian terraces. Other similar roads nearby are the same.

Further out, Sydenham and Penge are both a bit like this.

Canonbury in Islington - lovely place!

If by neighbourhood you mean looks like a picture book village, Islington, but don’t expect the bankers to feed your cat.

if you mean actual community groups, people helping eachother out etc, Leyton, Tottenham, Brockley

Wanstead. Check out Wanstead Community Hub on Facebook for a sense of the community. Lots of people helping each other out, volunteering for things, getting involved in stuff etc. The High Street is lovely with everything walkable and lots of surrounding green space.

I think all over London there are tight knit communities. People in cities often to prize the village idyll in a way small towns and rural places don't. Definitely more welcoming to incomers too!

Around London bridge Bermondsey street is village feel (not to be confused with the Bermondsey itself which is a different vibe)
