We have just received a quote for engineered wood flooring for an area of 20 sq metres in one room and small hallway 5 sq metres also replacing skirting boards ....£3900 !!! Is this high ? Was I being optimistic thinking it would cost around £2500? Area North East ...Thanks

Presumably that’s supply and fit at £156 per m2? It’s difficult to know because it depends entirely on the engineered wood they’re using, including how deep the wear layer is. There is a huge variance in prices in engineered wood. I’ve come across engineered wood at up to £200 per m2 + fitting.

Have they broken down the material and fitting costs for you? Also will they be gluing it down or floating it?

We’re going for a mid to upper range floor in London and we’re expecting to pay around £140 per m2 (+ VAT) including fitting (glued). Our engineered wood will have a 6mm wear layer which is on the upper end.

Sorry tell a lie mine is 12mm laminate.

I was looking at engineered but I couldn't believe the cost.

I've had the 12mm laminate before and it's amazing!!! All the floor fitters tried to get me to have the engineered and I laughed them off.

I can send you a link for the one I have fitted, I've had it in 2 houses now. 2 dogs and 3 kids, not a single mark.

The laminate was approx £35 a m2 compared to the engineered wood £70-150 a m2

I bought the engineered wood and wished I hadn't bothered with the expense. It marks really easily, has faded in areas where the sun has come through the French windows and generally looks very tired (despite giving it lots of floor oil to drink).

Friends house with laminate looks much better!

It's glued down and no breakdown of costs just requesting 2500 upfront !!!

I'd price up the flooring I wanted, then get some fitting quotes, so I knew exactly what I was paying for.

Engineered wood varies so much in price, quality and finish as to how hard wearing it is.

Have purchased an t & g engineered wood floor 20 mm thick. Atm have carpet floated on pine. The subfloor presently is all good except for 3 square metres of uneveness. The floor layer is given me a quote to cover pine subfloor with plywood and then glue the engineered wood over this. Is this a good idea as against simply floating by laying an undelay over present subfloor.?

Erm what noise do you mean? Just a normal wood floor sound. I've had it fitted in my new house with real oak nosings and I've had x 3 tradesmen think it's all real oak 🤣

Hard to scratch, but probably would if you took like a knife to it? Doesnt from furniture being dragged across it.
