Can anyone help. Just moved into a new house, we have a tank (immersion). And for the life of us we cannot get the hot water on

Any ideas please? Or do we need a plumber

For the immersion you should have a sink / bath switch inside the press with the tank. That will heat up 1/2 or full tank as required.

Or you may be hearing via your boiler (2nd pic). Then you'll have an option to have timed h/w (as well as the central heating option).

Finally, if all that looks correct, are the valves on correctly? They'd be about half way down the pipes perhaps.

It should be heating via the boiler with that controller.
you press the advance button and should get hot water within an hour. The boiler should fire up and you should hear this and the pipes leading away from the boiler should feel hot quickly.
Have you tried the heating does that work?

The heating works yes
The advance button doesn't seem to do anything, which like you say I thought it would give hot water within the hour

It could be that the controller has failed. My parents have exactly the same controller and it’s really easy to use but the original one gave up after 10 years and my dad replaced it.
If you drop the flap at the bottom down you can program it and see if it will work then.
Thwres also a flap at the bottom of the boiler and controls will be behind that. Worth looking to see if the settings are correct there as welll

Thank you, I now think the boiler is not igniting.

If the boiler is not igniting I would get a gas safe registered plumber/ engineer to come and service the boiler and sort it all out for you.

hedgehoglurker · 17/06/2023 17:18

Not an expert, but is there enough pressure in the boiler? You usually want to aim for 1.5 bar.

dementedpixie · 17/06/2023 17:21

Does the wee flap on the boiler flip down to access the controls?
Is there a manual for the boiler as it will tell you how to reignite the pilot

dementedpixie · 17/06/2023 17:27

I googled your boiler:

The pressure gauge should show at least 0.7bar, anything less than this figure could indicate a leak and you MUST contact your installation/servicing company.
If there is any doubt about the boiler being full of water consult your installation/servicing company.

ALL SYSTEMS:
Turn the electrical supply on to the boiler and check that all remote controls are calling for heat.
To Turn the Boiler On
Remove the controls cover, by withdrawing it forward and off, see diagram 1.
Turn the control thermostat knob clockwise to any position between MIN and MAX. The maximum temperature setting is about 82o
C (180oF), see diagram 1.

The boiler lighting operation is now automatic as follows.
The fan operates, followed by an ignition spark until the pilot is lit. When the pilot is alight the ignition system switches off and the main burner lights. The flames can be seen through the
viewing window, see diagram 1.
The main burner will remain alight until switched off by the control thermostat or any remote control.
If the boiler is switched OFF, by hand, wait at least 30 seconds before switching on again.
When the boiler switches off, both the pilot and main burner go out.
The automatic lighting sequence will operate again when heat is required.
Refit the controls cover.
It should be noted that this is a fan flue appliance and fan operation may be heard.

If the house has been empty a while the servo in the valve might be sticking. If you can locate it there is a manual override lever on it. Just operate it and let it catch on the latch and see if that works. If it does you may need a new servo on that valve.

Also worth checking the water supply to you water cylinder hasn't been turned off.

dementedpixie · 17/06/2023 17:29

Looks like you slide the bottom bit off the boiler to access the controls. Maybe do that to see if the boiler has been switched off manually. If it has then the info above should help you turn it on again

There would have to be, or else the heating wouldn't be working (OP says it does)

goingtotown · 17/06/2023 17:55

Pull the flap down, the instructions for lighting the boiler will be there.
Use the boiler for heating water.
Using the immersion heater will cost ££££££'s.

johnd2 · 17/06/2023 18:21

Boiler won't be igniting because the 2 port valve is not moving, could be sized, micro switch gone, etc, but either way a heating engineer can fix it.
