Am having the whole house renovated as the house was in such a state. We are having a new kitchen installed into an L shaped room with the kitchen in one end then a dining area in the corner and then a sitting area with double doors at the end. We have an adults sitting room elsewhere so want to have a family kind of area but the dining area is also our only dining room so we want it to remain quite smart! Am struggling to choose a colour scheme. The kichen is this one with black worktops www.omegaplc.co.uk/catalogue/omegaprod1.asp?ID=172.

Can any one help???!!

TIA

Is it a period or modern house?

Nice Have you considered red? lol Would be a brave step! Bet it would look great tho

Its a 1960s house, looks very boring from the front.

Yes I have thought of red, I have a few cath Kidson spots stuff and I was thinking about putting more red with it, only it will have to run through from the kitchen area into table cloths and then sofa cushions and curtains.

Its really hard trying to imagine it all together!

If it's cream and black that means it will go with almost anything so depends on the sort of flooring you want to put in, the amount of light the room gets and the general vibe of the house. It looks a pretty traditional kitchen so you may want to stick to fairly neutral colours and get some bolder colours in through furniture in the dining room and sitting areas.

The floor is a light oak laminate wood....

In that case, I would go with the spirit of the house and put in some quite bright, deep colours (but then I had burnt orange in my living room for six years...).

Sorry, looks like we x-posted with last batch.

In the end, it's only paint, it will only take a day to redo if you get it wrong and you can always change your tablecloths. Don't sweat it.

Take about 3 colours per room, mix up any patterns at all but keep them in the same 3 colours.

Go for a modern but not a fashionable kitchen so that it stands the time test.

Go for fairly plain units, tiles and worktops and go mad with the wallpaper etc. These can be changed however often you like.

Get samples of everything and lay it all on a table, look at it from a distance, not too close or all you'll see is the detail in the tiny sample. You can get samples of everything, including pieces of units and pieces of worktop.

Hi Daisycat,

have you seen mydeco.com? you can recreate your room in 3D and pick furniture, paint & wallpaper schemes from places like Heals, Ikea, etc, to see if it fits and whether it all goes together. Great fun!
