Tiny yet functional basin. Does it exist?

Picking things for our main bathroom, which is on the small side of small. Could cram in a 550mm basin/vanity but am thinking of going smaller in hope of having space for a hand towel between vanity and bath.

Would a smaller basin be irritating for eg. face washing?

Anyone got something smaller in their main bathroom/en-suite that works for them?

We have a smal bathroom and we are going with this: https://bathroomvillage.com/products/gsi-kube-x-45-x-35-washbasin

It doesn’t look small in person despite its size. I think it’s because the design maximises the basin space, and as we’re wall mounting our taps we’ll have a generous amount of space at the back for soap, etc too, but you’d still have a decent amount of space if you didn’t wall mount your taps.

You can also add a rail for a towel.

We have a tiny sink in our en-suite and it’s ok but we do get a lot of water on the floor. Well one of us does……

Thanks for this. Mounting taps! Hadn't thought of that. Though not sure the wall ours has to go on can support this.

Haha I worry one of our household might have the same problem

They have a variety of hole options you can add for taps so not necessary to wall mount. It’s a great design!

Since it’s your main bathroom I’d go as large as possible.
We have a tiny 40cm version of the sink pictured above in our cloakroom wc and it’s really only suitable for hand washing and careful tooth brushing.

Honestly, in a main bathroom I'd go as large as possible. Surely you could find somewhere else for the hand towel?

We had the vanity unit that CrazyMadChickenLady has posted a link to in an en-suite. It would be okay in a downstairs loo where people just want to wash their hands, but in an en-suite or bathroom where people will want to wash their face, it's impossible. The lack of space at the back means you can't actually get your face right over the sink. So your face is half over the sink/half over the floor when you're splashing water on it. Very messy!

Could you look for a washstand that isn't part of a vanity unit and maybe has a rail underneath you could hang a towel on? Something like this - https://www.bigbathroomshop.co.uk/milano-richmond-560mm-traditional-basin-and-washstand-brushed-gold-3-tap-holes-88109?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0dPOsby-wIVlMftCh1kJQKSEAQYAiABEgINEfDD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

They do a toilet with a sink on top of the cistern, so as you run the tap the water feeds into the cistern of the loo, great for the environment apparently as well.

If you get a tiny one and it’s shallow too, it will be terribly splashy and annoying. It’s probably okay in a cloakroom or at a push in an occasional use en-suite, but for a main bathroom where you want to wash your face and someone might want to shave etc I would be annoying.

We have one in a guest en-suite. I. It I’ve that after people leave, they have the bath mat in the floor in front of it - I think it’s because it constantly splashes. It’s what fitted in the tiny en-suite and is okay for occasional use but definitely not as main sink.

@thehonscupboard Our bathroom is tiny 😬 we just had it done and opted to fit in as big a unit as we could in order to try and give us some storage as well as a decent sized sink. We couldn’t do wall mounted taps due to where our window sits above the sink.

We went for this unit with the ‘thin edge basin’ (disclaimer: not my bathroom pics 🤣 I’m just not home to take a decent pic lol). It’s a decent size and depth 😊 I opted for a stick-on towel rail type thing and put it on the side of the vanity between that and the bath 😊

We have a towel radiator on the wall above the head end of the L shaped shower/bath where you can hang towels on. That works well. It’s right up on the wall next to the sink too.

Crazymadchickenlady · 12/06/2023 22:50

It doesn’t really get wet when you shower and isn’t in the way of your head in the bath.

Thank you everyone for giving me food for thought. My builder and majority of comments here have persuaded me to go as big as possible to avoid splash. And he's pointed out a good hand towel place too. Cheers for all your help!
