New Bathroom Costs

Hello everyone, sorry to post a financial question here, I know things are costly for most at the moment. After a while saving up and in tie with my 30th birthday I have decided the one thing I want to treat us to more than anything is a bathroom update. My bathroom is spotless as I really have tried to polish a turd over the years but absolutely worn and minging. I have never had anyone in to fit anything before as my fiancée is good at DIY but given the plumbing and other bits that go with a bathroom being fitted we have decided to get a professional in. Absolutely everything needs doing, even the flush on the toilet is cracked ( but works thank god! ), the extractor fan is old and needs replacing as it makes a ticking sound when it's rolling, the sink has a big chip out of it where MIL leant on the shelf above it to squeeze a pimple and it came down lol lol lol bless her, you get the idea! Where on earth do we start? Is there any particular company anyone can reccomend? What should we begin with? Thank you so much in advance

Whatever you do, do not use check a trade or my builder or anything like that. Start asking friends and family who you trust for recommendations. Unfortunately google and trust pilot can have fake reviews too. Make sure you only use a company who let you pay via credit card, if anything goes wrong they are liable too. Sorry to air on the side of caution we have had a project go wrong.

Omg thank you for this it's exactly the kind of advice that I need! I actually had considered using them but I suppose reviews can be fake can't they! I'm quite shy anyway so the thought of having shoddy work terrifies me as I'd struggle to say anything lol. I'll ask in my WhatsApp group chats to see if friends ans family know of anyone thank you for replying

I'd ask around too. If you have had good tradespeople in, ask them for suggestions- good ones tend to recommend other good ones (not always, but it's a start in terms of people to ask around about).
I avoid national companies for domestic house work, whether it's windows or whatever. They tend to be very overpriced to cover their fancy overheads, give you a daft price, then reduce it 'if you agree today, my manager will talk to you, here, take the phone' and all that crap, and if you cost it, they are still waaaay overpriced. And often employ local workers both you and they have no direct control over.

Agree you need recommendations from people you know.

Are you wanting the bathroom set out the same? Things moved around?

My son is renovating his flat. Bathroom completely striped, replastering, fully tiled, bath, shower over bath but all pipe work sunk into the walls, concealed toilet and basin vanity. We have supplied the tiles and flooring as we could get that at cost but they are supplying everything else. Coat £6k and we have used this firm before to fit the central heating and their work is excellent.

Do you mind sharing their details, we would be interested in getting our bathroom renovated soon.

Cracking price we’ve just spent 12k bit more involved as had to over waste pipes and change walls. But just the fixtures fittings and tiles came to over £5k

It’s a very good price. We are getting some discount as the flat is still empty so he is fitting it around his offer work as no rush to finish as we are still doing other renovations. He also fitted the new gas central heating £5k for a Worcester Bosch combi, radiator’s and heated towel rail. It’s a 2 bed flat so each room and hallway. Pipe work has to be wall mounted as it’s a concrete construction but all bar one room he has managed to bring the pipes in the corner and the other can easily be boxed in. Great pipework that you don’t often see if wall mounted.

Having had 2 bathrooms replaced in the last 3 years I would strongly advise using a specialist company who takes care of everything.

Our bathrooms took around 10 days each from start to finish! Friends' have taken weeks, sometimes months trying to arrange different workmen independently.

Our main bathroom cost just under £8k
which included ripping out everything, new flooring, new suite and tiling. Very high quality finish. Similarly with en suite which cost just under £7k if that helps.
We are in Derbyshire though.

Would do but Maidenhead a bit far from Derbyshire. 😊

It's just a small independent kitchen and bathroom specialist but if you Google for similar in your area there should be some locally.
