Budget kitchen update (pics)

I've attached some pictures from my kitchen - which looks ok from a distance! But look closer & it's dated & a bit shabby.

I bought the place almost 2 years ago & don't plan to stay here long term, so don't want to replace the kitchen, or have the budget anyway.

From the photos on close up, the cabinets I think are original from the 70's (note the brown undersides) & the doors have been replaced (just going to keep them).

There are electrical lights underneath which will need removed & if possible update that cooker electric switch to something more modern.

The cooker isn't working so will need replaced & the cooker hood at the same time.

I'm not sure what to do about the tiles as they have been painted over - maybe remove or cover with something?

Had thought about either replacing or wrapping the work surfaces. Guessing replacing will cost more.

Any thoughts on which order to start?

Thought about getting a new oven & hood first & use an electrician to install & change the switch, then the tiling & finally the work surfaces.

Any advice appreciated! Thanks

What's wrong with it exactly?

Could replace the handles with larger ones, the tiny ones are not in fashion.

Could cover the worktops in vinyl yourself, not expensive, just a faff and not particularly hard wearing. I covered mine vertically so bought the extra wide film and rolled it all the way up the backsplash to make it all the same. White/grey marble effect.

I'd be tempted to scrub off the old paint off the backsplash and try either vinyl or tile stickers.

Floor is dark but a rug could help? Or paint the tiles?

I wouldn't remove lighting, I'd love under cabinet lighting!

The 70s look is in, so replacing the doors with e.g. plywood or bamboo effect would make it trendy.

It definitely looks better from a distance!

The cabinets are literally falling apart & it just looks shabby up close - have attached some more pictures.

The flooring is Lino but I don't find it offensive.

I think a new cooker & hood will be a huge improvement. I'll get silver appliances to lighten it up.

The tiling is probably the worst of it.

You need to do the worktop before the tiling but other than that it sounds like a good plan. New tiles and worktop will make a huge difference.

Thanks so much @Geneticsbunny - that's good to know.

Will take a look at Howden's and B&Q for some budget options.
