Has anyone been back to see their old house after they moved?

Just that above question- was it much different to how you left it?

Why do so many people rip out all the original features? And I’d love to have an Anderson shelter in my back garden.

I walk past my first home sometimes. One of the first things she did was replace my sheer white kitchen blind with net curtains. No idea why as they both do the same job, but the blind looked much nicer imo.

She hasn't done anything to the awful polycarbonate roof on the "extension". It was a vile lean-to when I moved in. I had quite a bit of work done to improve, but didn't do anything with the roof as I knew I was selling and thought the new buyer might prefer the choice of how to replace it.

Would love to see inside and see what else has changed.

My childhood home was up for rent a few years after we moved out. All of the character features had been removed and it looked totally soulless :(

Following on from this thread I went in zoopla last night and had a nosey at listings of old houses I've lived in- the one that really got me was the one I bought at 19 when I got engaged to ex husband. Tiny 2 bed semi but huge garden and we made it really lovely back in 1981 - when it was last sold in 2014 it looked semi derelict inside , with a massively overgrown garden- rather upsetting - desparately hoping someone has made it lovely again

Yes it's only round the corner and it was up for rent recently so I had a nose at the pictures. They put a much nicer kitchen in doing work that we sold rather than did. They replaced the bathrooms that I thought were quite modern, but seeing the new ones...they weren't modern at all.

They also replaced the tiled front path that we'd had put in and instantly regretted as it ended up looking 1970s municipal swimming pool tiling rather than Victorian and in keeping. The new path is lovely.

Yes, a few times in the past. Post Office didn't redirect all our post and our friendly purchaser kept inviting me in. She'd painted it white all over, with the exception of DD's home and the fireplace which she'd kept the same. New flooring throughout. Painted over all the kitchen units and boarded sides of conservatory (have to respect it was her house, but the later looked awful).

She only stayed five years, current owners about the same and it's back up for sale. I can see from the photos that they'd wallpapered everywhere, very large floral/tropical prints, black and white tiles in the hall and kitchen though. Again, funnily enough, DD's room and the fireplace have been kept the same colour.

The decor by both owners hasn't been to our taste, but we both feel we could just move back in there - it was a good home for us and our lovely neighbours are still next door.

I’ve not been passed it, as we moved from the area completely , but Dh drove past once - he said the front garden looked a mess, overgrown and very unloved.
We loved the gardens and put a lot of effort into them, so it was a little sad to hear (I also felt better about taking some of the plants with us!)

I drive past my childhood home a couple of times a month. It’s a big beautiful Victorian house. I love going past and seeing my old bedroom but sadly, it was turned into student flats, I dread to see what it looks like inside.

One of the reception rooms used to have a stunning real marble fireplace & ornate mantle piece. I bet that’s not there anymore.

My mum still plays hell at the people we sold it to for selling it on to a ‘soulless’ developer, she loved that house.
