EA Etiquette - Do they call to say vendor has accepted an offer from someone else?

Hi! I know some 'operators' can be a bit brazen sometimes and these processes can be messy, I'm no delicate flower, but...

if you have submitted an offer on a house and a different offer has been accepted a couple of days later (before your own has been formally turned down), is it customary for EAs to call you or send an e-mail to let you know?

It seems a bit unprofessional (to say the least) if you look at the listings and suddenly see a property you have offered on flagged as 'Under Offer' and nobody gets in touch with you, isn't it?

In my experience no. Unless they think you’ll increase your offer and want to encourage a bidding war. But this is usually done pre-marking it as SSTC

Thanks! It's been a while since the last time we bought and I might have got a bit 'rusty' 😂 I still find it incredibly rude

Oh well...back to square one I guess 😅

Most EAs wouldn't bother. Remember they don't work for you, they work for the vendor. Once an offer has been accepted they don't want to spend time contacting the losing bidders.

No, I disagree, a good EA will call you and ask if you want to counter/update you. I think it's very rude to just ignore/not update to an offer at all.

I agree, especially in the current climate. Also what if the sale falls through and decide that the 'losing bids' were not that bad after all

I believe a good Estate Agent would and should update you - after all, whilst you may not buy this house, you may find another one through them. It’s not in their interests to alienate potential buyers, especially in a more challenging market.

Exactly, I think it's always good to keep a good rapport as plenty of sales fall through. Also many people use EA's from word of mouth so I think it would pay for them to do the bare minimum of politeness.

People choose estate agents to sell houses. It’s rare they are put off buying the right house because of who the agent is. You grit your teeth and get on with it. Tbh once an offer is accepted they don’t do much.
