Would you be willing to show me your tiny kitchen?

Or any tips about how you made a small kitchen more practical in terms of storage and use?

We moved in last year and I have been doing the other rooms and putting off the kitchen because it’s such a complex job compared to just painting and laying floors. I will also be doing it DIY for financial reasons - I do have experience with DIY and plumbing so should be fine.

For context the space is 2.9m x 1.7m with the entrance on the shorter end.

I’m looking for any interesting gadgets or design tips to maximise space without it feeling too crowded or close?

I don’t have a tiny kitchen now but have in the past as well as being experienced at cooking in a caravan.

In terms of design, you can get under plinth storage for things like baking trays that you don’t use very often and cupboards that go up to the ceiling so it doesn’t look cluttered.

In terms of gadgets a fitted combi oven/ microwave would be useful. If your budget can stretch to it a boiling water tap will save workspace as you won’t need a kettle.

From caravans, covers for the sink and hob that double as chopping boards are useful, stacking saucepans with removable handles and if you go to a camping store (like go outdoors) you can buy collapsible silicone bowls.

Our kitchen is tiny (useable floorspace we have three square metres). I'll try and find the mock ups we had from Wren.

We went Galley style and everything is intergrated (our style preference). I don't feel like we've gone without anything...The oven is at height with a cupboard above it and two drawers below it, we have a standing fridge freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher and built in bin.

The hob we blocked off the gas pipe, moved it and went for induction instead which takes up less room we found.

We do have limited counterspace but that's to be expected in such a small room, it's never been an issue for us

Thank you both, some great ideas with hob covers and the storage. I hadn’t thought of a quooker tap but it would definitely free up counter space

We have lived on boats for 10 years, boat kitchens are great to look at for clever and beautiful storage solutions. Defo no kettle/toaster/worktop gadgets, we use hob top kettle and use grill for toast. Small tip We love spice tubs that magnet to the fridge.

This is my one wall kitchen. To the left is a full size larder cupboard that has all my food, baking stuff, large pans etc in. The rest is all drawers

So if you have the option of putting in a big built in cupboard then do that, it has at least 6/7 kitchen cupboards worth of stuff in.

Ours is in an open plan living room but it would work as a galley style. We have an integrated microwave and oven combi and a ninja. I hardly ever use the oven.

I don't usually have the slow cooker there either - I put it in the garage so it doesn't stink my house out, but it's getting washed.

@Loafbeginsat60 I love your tiles

Use a hob top kettle, cheaper and takes up zero room. Induction is brilliant as you can use it as a work surface when the individual rings aren't in use.

What other storage have you got in the house?

We keep cutlery in the dining room.

I redesigned a tiny kitchen by blocking up the back door so that I could add more units and worktop space. I then changed the window in the dining room into double doors for access to the back garden. The kitchen was so useable after that and no longer seemed small.

Our last house had a tiny narrow kitchen and I would say work out whether a galley kitchen would give you more space

We had kitchen designers in who designed a u-shaped kitchen but I didn't like their design (or how patronising they were) so I worked it out myself and I got more storage space with a galley kitchen than a u shaped kitchen and I didn't have the struggle with getting into corner cupboards in a tight space.
