Beading - is this right?

We have restored the parquet flooring in our new home. There have been a few issues but I wanted to check if this is right for the beading.

I have attached a couple of photos. The beading stops right before the door frame, which would be fine if the door frame actually protruded. Except it doesn’t. Instead, it just seems to stop short of the end of the skirting.

The flooring company are saying it’s normal but that doesn’t look right to me. The previous beading went all the way round.

Ah I see it it could have gone a bit further along but not round the corner of the architrave as then the door would hit it ?

PickNewName · 26/05/2023 14:11

That’s how mine are too, although the architrave isn’t so wide in our house. We didn’t see the floor before it was all down and the beading matches the flooring so it doesn’t show as much.
The little end bits have long gone up the hoover though!

Beadybead · 26/05/2023 14:12

So it should have gone to end right? They’re saying it’s normal to stop where they did.

There was beading before around the architrave so even the door should still
open and close with beading there.

I suppose they could have cut the return piece where the bullnose on the architrave is and that would have looked better, then the door would miss it and it would look more finished.

Thanks, that’s my thinking. They’ve done a shoddy job with the beading in general but that’s something they’re pushing back on.

Yes it looks a bit J Arthur ☹️ That’s the problem nowdays . People don’t take pride in their own work anymore and it’s just get it done as quick/ easy as possible and off to the next job. Tell them your not happy with it and want it changing . 👍

The annoying thing is they are a reputable company! For all of the other works we have used sole traders where we took a gamble on their work, but as the flooring is so specialist, we went for the company who charged us double the sole trader (think thousands) because we thought they knew what they were doing and would do a good job!

Here are more photos of the beading, it just looks shoddy!

It really is! I’m amazed they thought that’s acceptable.

Whose job would that be? The flooring company or the painter / decorator?

I did the beading for the whole of our downstairs and it looks much better than this. I would be kicking off royally!

Somanysocks · 26/05/2023 19:06

Shocking job, aren't joins supposed to be angled anyway?

Seen a few posts on here this week with people showing reputable companies doing piss poor work.

It seems that is becoming the norm.

With such a lack of tradesmen, it's hardly a surprise. Why keep up quality control when there's noone else around to do the job?

I am sorry for your eyesore, OP. I would not let them leave it like that.
