Patchy new grout

We're in the process of doing up our bathroom ourselves. Everything been going well so far, however DH started grouting the tiles last night and now its dried the colour (white) looks patchy/dirty in areas.

He thinks we need to chip it all out and start again (which is pretty devastating tbh). Any ideas why it has gone like this? And if we can salvage it without starting again 😭

I can't really see it in my phone but could it be that it isn't fully dry yet?

If it’s darker in some areas that means it was mixed in a dirty container / got dirty somehow.

otherwise it should be all pristine white.

get it out super fast - or you’ll never get it out.

I’d say the darker patches are not fully dry yet as well 👍

This is our fear/theory.

What colour tile adhesive did you use?
It could be areas where there is excessive adhesive therefore a shallower depth of grout?

This is our fear/theory.

Look at your tools, if they’re dirty / have been used for a different colour in the past then that’s your problem.

if it’s white grout, even if it’s still wet, it should be gleaming white.

the very fact you’re asking means it isn’t right.

A quick Google will tell you grout usually takes between 24-72 hours to dry properly, depending on temperature/ humidity.
