Diy kitchens or Howdens

Morning all,

My partner and I are purchasing our first home and the kitchen desperately needs replacing. Our aim is not cheap cheap but certainly want something good value and that is easy to fit ourselves. We have had quotes from Howdens, benchmark and diy kitchens.

Diy kitchens have come in far better price. I have used Howdens pre made carcasses a few years ago and found them fairly easy to fit.

Does anyone have any experience of DIY kitchens or have any thoughts about how who is the b let value supplier?

We got a Howdens kitchen 5 years ago and it has worn well. We got a great deal by placing our order at the end of a sales quarter - this meant we had to take delivery of the units before we were ready to fit the kitchen but it was well worth it for the discount so worth trying to negotiate a deal if it's the end of a quarter.

Having read others' posts about DIY kitchens though, I'll definitely look at those if I ever move and need a new kitchen.

Did any of the DIY kitchen purchasers opt for their in-frame designs? I’d be interested to know your thoughts.

Yes and super happy with the quality.
Majority of our units are drawers.
Some are faux inframe e.g. door on the integrated dishwasher and the pull out baskets but I cannot tell the difference visually.

My friend has had a DIY kitchen fitted and the joiner that did it for her said it’s better than the Howdens kitchens. She’s really pleased with it.
